It looks legit. However, I cannot fathom why they’re showing the Enterprise under construction. Here’s a large photo of the ship being built. Can someone explain to me how this is supposed to work? Pike’s the captain of the Enterpr-- oh, wait, I just think I figured it all out. They’re going to do it like K-19 the Widowmaker aren’t they? Pike’s supposed to be in charge of the Enterprise after she’s finished, but because he’s too conservative, they put the brash young James T. Kirk in charge and he takes the Enterprise out and puts her through her paces, while fighting the Romulans. Color me unoptimistic. They shoulda hired the guys who did Star Wreck.
Meh, they’re just going to fuck the continuity with all the gentleness and tenderness one gives a two-dollar whore.
Spock? He’s now from the planet Mintax. The old name was passé.
Hold on a second there. You make several assumptions, make up your own plot, and dismiss the movie over it?
Can you at least wait until the proper trailer is officially released, and not base your assumptions on a bootleg of the teaser?
'Kay, so you explain to me why we’re seeing the Enterprise being put together. Does young cadet Kirk look out at her being built and say, “Someday, I’m going to command that ship!” before he trots off to classes at Star Fleet Academy? Does Pike screw the pooch with the Enterprise, causing it to be severely damaged and thus is actually being repaired before being sent out with Kirk in charge?
Or do they just show the 1701 being built at the beginning and then move on with the story. The point is you don’t know what context that clip is in. You may be right or wrong, you have no way of knowing yet.
Wanna bet? Cause I just can’t see them using that as a “throwaway” scene for the trailer/beginning of the film.
You may be right. But it’s just as possible, more likely even, that you are wrong. There are potentially many reasons why the Enterprise is being built. Maybe it isn’t in the movie at all, and its an image being used as a metaphor for a reconstruction of the Star Trek mythos. Maybe it’s being built for Captain Pike, and Kirk won’t be flying it in the movie at all. Maybe it’s just repairs after Pike’s most recent mission.
The point is it’s too early, and a completely baseless supposition, to cast judgement on the entire movie from this single clip.
I suppose next you’ll say that one would have to watch the enitre film before they could comment on it’s quality. :dubious:
Well, some of the film would be good. Say, an hour or so. Something more than a glorified animated poster, at least.
I dunno about you, but it didn’t take me an hour to determine that Battlefield Earth was a festering load of crap. Nor do we only have a “glorified animated poster” as our only guide. We know who’s writing it, directing it, starring in it, and the names of the characters. We also have some idea of the plot. We can begin to put all of these things together to form a bit of a picture.
We may be reading too much into the trailer. The message could be:
The ENTERPRISE is under construction to be unveiled later.
This film is under construction to be unveiled later.
Can one of you guys answer a question that’s been bugging me for years?
I’m not what you’d call a die-hard ST fan, but I’ve seen most of the original series, much of TNG and a few episodes of the other three shows. I may not be able to rattle off ship ID numbers like a true fan, but I can tell a Vulcan from a Klingon. I feel pretty comfortable with Trek lore, at least the parts of it that don’t involve wormholes.
So here’s my question: who the hell is this Captain Pike?
Who’s Winona Ryder going to be playing - Amanda, Spock’s mom?
Captain Pike was the Captain of the Enterprise in the pilot of the original series.
He “comes back” later as an invalid in a terrible robot suit car thingy, that can only say “yes” and “no”. You have an intelligent computer that runs a ship, but he can only say yes and no.
Pike
$10 says it’s only a metaphor for the rebuilding of the franchise. The move doesn’t even hit the screens until December, and I’ll bet we might actual be seeing footage of the set being built, and maybe they thought it would be cool to use that as if the actual Enterprise was being constructed. In that way, they wouldn’t be spending anymore money than they already were on the film, and could come out with (what I thought) was a kick ass teaser. Something that probably wouldn’t be used in the actual film (but who knows?).
The line, “Under Construction” is a clue in that regard I think.
Yup.
Spock’s mom is hot!
Wait… he was in an unaired pilot*, and he’s still part of series continuity?
Does that mean that us Buffy fans should be angry that Willow isn’t a chubby brunette?
- I think pilots - even those that actually air - shouldn’t be held to strict continuity standards in any case. Let the series find its footing first before you start niggling about details.
The pilot was heavily used as flashback material in a later TOS ep. Which had the character Pike in it, albeit played by a different actor
