What GPU does it take to run it on ultra (rather than just the recommended GPU)?
I’ve heard that while it looks great but the gameplay gets old rather quickly. Senor Beef seemed to be confirming that when it comes to maps. Is it the same for weapons, other gameplay mechanics?
My 770 runs ultra at 1080p with 48-65 fps, with only night endor going towards the lower end of that range.
There aren’t that many weapons. There are 9 game modes. Depends on what you’re looking for. There are people who’ve probably played for 3000 hours on dust2 in counterstrike.
Thanks for the info. Strange though that the night version of Endor would require more power to render; I would have expected the opposite.
I hated that map. Especially the grenade-lobbing central area.
Someone modded the game in an attempt at photorealism. That looks really amazing, I think. Some of those could pass for movie stills.
They could. Although it’s curious that there are no videos, especially if it only reduces the framerate by 30-40fps as he says.
I’m definitely interested in this game, but I’ll be waiting for the price to go down. I played the beta and found it to be reasonably fun, if repetitive. The general feel of Star Wars is quite solid; playing the Battle of Hoth with the John Williams soundtrack in the background is exhilarating.
There’s a decent balance between group objectives and individual achievement, even if 80% of my lives were less than one minute long. I do wish there was a better way to collaborate on tactics, like easy ways to say “take down that turret” or “fortify that objective” that marked the request on nearby allies’ maps.
Still, by all accounts, it seems like there’s not a lot of content for $60, and the additional $60 for the season pass just feels like a blatant cash grab, not that I’d expect less from EA. I would gladly play this game if it was available for $30-40 with $10-20 DLC packages. But $120, including content that hasn’t even been released yet? No thanks.
Slight correction, Ive been playing blast which is 10 vs 10. I haven’t yet worked my way into the multiplayer games with vehicles yet. 11 kills so far is my personal best. I see some player rack up 25 kills and it amazes me. I’ve havent played a fist person shooter on a ps system since Medal of Honor on ps2 and that was about 15 years ago, so cut me some slack. I love the tattooine map with the rebel alliance transport ships. There is the krayt dragon skeleton and the sarlaac pit(which I threw a grenade into:D) on the map, in the distance you can see jabba’s palace and a sand crawler. I use the jet pack to get on top of the transport that doesn’t take off and target practice opposing players with the homing shot and t21b.
The DLC packages are $15, in this case. The season pass is just a preorder of all 4 for $50. It keeps the game fresh for a year. The battlefield games (which is what this developer has worked on previously) actually have really beefy DLCs. 4 maps, but 4 huge, beefy maps that can be broken into multiple game modes by focusing on different areas. New game modes and mechanics with every expansion. Weapons, vehicles.
Compare to Call of Duty which has been doing the same thing, they give 5 maps per $15 map pack, nothing else, and the maps are tiny in comparison. A CoD map is about 1/10th the size of a Battlefield map, with less complexity because there’s no real destructible terrain and buildings. And often 2 of those 5 maps are just literal cut-and-paste maps from previous CoD games.
It’s true that the base game lacks content, though, especially compared to the Battlefield series. It’s pretty bare. But if the DLC is as hefty as Battlefield DLC it won’t be minor.
Details of the free Battle Of Jakku DLC are out:
http://starwars.ea.com/starwars/battlefront/features/battle-of-jakku
A new mode and two new maps:
New maps:
**Graveyard of Giants **
Turning Point, Supremacy, Walker Assault, and Fighter Squadron
Goazan Badalands
Blast, Drop Zone, Droid Run, Cargo, Hero Hunt, and Heroes vs. Villains.
To add to what I said, it’s unfair to say this. The price of the game is $60 ($50 on GMG). The price isn’t $120 (and even then you mean $110, since the season pass is 50, not 60). You don’t have to buy the DLC. Nor do you have to buy the DLC upfront before you know anything about it. The season pass is just a literal preorder of all DLC to save $10. There is no compelling need to do this, it’s only there as an option if you’re sure you’ll get all the DLC anyway and want to save a few bucks.
You can wait to see if you still like the game in a couple of months and want more content, at which point you can order one DLC for $15 if you want. If you’re still playing the game in a year and hungry for new content, you can order the last DLC too. Or not.
Somehow this game has become a scapegoat for industry-wide DLC practices for 5 years as if this were a new thing. Fallout 4’s season pass, which we know nothing about, has been a top seller on steam for a while and no one is saying “OMG SEASON PASS GAME IS AWFUL BETHESDA IS EVIL”
By the standards of DLC for multiplayer games, DICE actually has a pretty good track record of releasing substantial amounts of value for the DLC money.
That’s pretty cool, more than I thought was coming. A third game mode for big maps will be nice.
If they retro-fit the new mode into the release maps (and they would be dumb not to at this point) it will be great.
According to this page: http://www.ea.com/news/the-start-of-your-star-wars-adventure there will be more free maps in the future.
Not a huge discount, but GMG has Battlefront for $45 for a few hours. Gotta act fast.
Been playing Battle of Jakku last two days. I had some problems getting it to start but I restarted system and it worked after that. Basically you attack(rebel) or defend(imperial) a series of control points to win the game. It’s slightly better than blast and you can rack up kills quick once it gets down to the last point.
A buddy bought it for PS4 and brought it to my place.
First we were disappointed to find out that there’s no split screen online multiplayer. Okay, fine, we tried the co-op missions instead.
Even more disappointing. 15 waves of repetition. Pretty much every co-op mode that Call of Duty has put out in the last half-dozen iterations beats it. There just aren’t enough powerups to keep things interesting for any length of time.
