Get out your old tape of the original Star Wars. (This may only be on the widescreen version i’m not sure). When R2D2 and C3PO are in the control room on the DeathStar hiding in the closet and the stormtroopers come in watch the right side of your screen.
The door does not slide all the way up and one of the stormtroopers walks his face right into it. Good stuff.
There are many bloopers in the original Star Wars.
Its quite pathetic really. A few years ago I found a site that listed at least 20 per movie.
Try google searching for it, may be a good read.
That always cracks me up. I prefer to view it not as an actual film goof but as an insight to the quality of Storm Troopers in the federation. (of course it’s a goof but I like to think of it the other way.)
Not really a goof, even the best trained soldiers make mistakes in the real world. Case in point: Friendly-fire deaths…although I’m sure mr lucas didn’t write it in the script:D
In a galaxy of such technological advancements, wouldn’t the gunners have guessed that an escape pod without human life forms aboard would nevertheless be capable of carrying information dangerous to the Empire? After all, they weren’t on a tight budget! I’m sure that Darth Vader wouldn’t mind the risk of wasting a single laser bolt, especially when so much trouble might have been avoided
in the Rebel base, as the pilots are briefed for the battle, the Death star plans are displayed on a screen. The goof is that the plans displayed show the superlaser dish in the middle of the death star, along the equator. However, the shots of the real Death star clearly show the superlaser dish in the top half,in the upper hemisphere. Not very accurate for blueprints, huh?
Regarding the OP, the really funny thing is that Lucas had Jango Fett do the same thing when entering his ship in Episode II. In the DVD commentary, they said that since the storm troopers were clones of JF, they’d “inherit” his problem with doors.
Return of the Jedi has one where you can see the gaff-microphone during the flight scene with the ewoks and storm troopers, right before R2D2 hacks into the door system for the base.
I had heard, though I don’t believe it, that the 'trooper banging his head on the door was intentional…remember when Luke burst into Carr-er, Leia’s cell, she says, “Aren’t you a little short to be a stormtrooper?” My source claimed that those two scenes were linked. :dubious:
