Star Wars Episode IX anticipation thread

Yes.

Fuck Lando Calrissian!

Now, Darth Vader, there’s a Nubian god!

OK, so the Jedi might consider being structured differently.

In our universe, you have an “elite of readers, tuba-players, and calculus-doers” that pass on knowledge of these things. They’re called ‘schools,’ and if they shut down and burned every trace of their works, we’d be a lot worse off, because it would be a damned sight harder for kids to learn to read, and for older kids to learn calculus. You’d have much lower levels of literacy and math skills.

Same thing with the Jedi in the Star Wars universe. Until there’s some other outfit teaching knowledge and use of the Force, the Jedi are it, and if they call it quits, there’s going to be a generation without access to what they’ve known.

And if schools routinely unleashed genocidal maniacal supervillains every generation or so, then destroying all of the schools and starting from scratch just might not be all that bad an idea. Especially if said genocidal supervillains have already mostly destroyed the schools, so that we’re starting from very close to scratch, anyway.

She wears a completely different outfit to Ahch-To. Side-by-side comparison,in doll form :

And then has a third “Jedi” outfit that she’s wearing later (e.g. when on Snoke’s ship)

They just all share similar elements - armwraps rather than sleeves, pants+boots, split belt (may be the same one throughout), neutral colours.

We also don’t let teachers run the government, schools and religious institutions with little to no oversight.

Let’s face it, the Jedi screwed the pooch enormously through their own culture of exclusion and superiority. A wider net, one that catchers more people, would be a better way to handle force powers than the way the Jedi did it.

I just…don’t know what to do with that…

Blasphemy! Lando brings a cool factor that can only be equaled by Han Solo. Dude walks into every situation with the attitude of “I don’t know about the rest of you, but my black ass is walkin’ up outta here no matter how messed up this thing gets.”

And have you seen his cape collection?!?!

Vader was a Nubian god until they retconned him into a whiny, insignificant little punk ass bitch over the course of 3 movies. Now I just don’t know what to think of him.

Thanks for that

I think it’s time for Rey to upgrade to one of those pimp ass Jedi/Sith robes. She’s plenty cool enough to pull it off.

XKCD 37!

I can’t believe this hasn’t been bumped yet. Despite how Episode VIII went, I’m looking forward to Episode IX. Here are some of the things I’m hoping for. I haven’t seen it yet, so there are no spoilers. If anything on my wish list comes true, it’s pure coincidence. Here we go.

  1. A happy ending, Return of the Jedi style where all the heroes survive and get a medal for a job well done.

  2. If we can’t have a happy ending, at least an ending that wraps everything up. No threads left hanging. If we are to have an Episode 10, it should be far into the future, not a continuation of the Rey - Finn - Poe storyline and characters.

  3. A good farewell for Princess Leia.

  4. Lightsaber wish list. At this point I’m guessing the trailers that showed Rey with a Darth Maul style lightsaber will turn out to be misleading, but it would be cool to see her with one. As an alternative it would be nice if she finds Luke’s green lightsaber from RotJ. My guess, however, is that she’ll be using the blue lightsaber throughout the movie. Either way, there needs to be some kick ass duels.

  5. Lando should have some good heroic moments, as well as some funny one liners.

  6. Some explanation / storyline wrap-up for the villains. If they’re bringing back Palpatine, how did he survive and why is he coming back now of all times? Same thing with Snoke if he makes a return as well, along with his backstory.

My wish is for the tv shows to somehow be rolled in. Not to the confusion of anyone who hasn’t seen Rebels, Clone Wars, Resistance or the Mandalorian, but a nod nonetheless. I’d especially like to see Ahsoka make it to the big screen. I mean, to end the Skywalker saga without including mention of Anakin’s Padawan seems like a mistake.

Since it’s Abrams directing I’m just afraid of how much he’s going to recycle plotlines and scenes from the OT. My guess is there will be some dramatic late-hour redemption for Kylo and he helps Rey defeat Palpatine (or whomever the villain is) a’la Vader’s turn in ROTJ.

If that is how things go down, I think it would be a good thing rather than a bad thing

Just snagged the last not-in-the-first-two-rows ticket for Thursday night.

A friend was showing off his 4K home theater by showing The Last Jedi and I thought “I forgot how much FUN this was!” and decided to see the last one ASAP. Almost gave up but tried a theater out of town and found a midnight 3D showing.

I’m so excited, but don’t know anyone to tell who’ll be as happy for me as some of you folk here.

Oh I’m happy for you, and me and all the rest of us. I honestly can’t remember when I’ve been this excited about a movie coming out.

We’ve picked a few of the old movies to re-watch this week in anticipation of the Big Release. We watched Ep. 3 on Saturday, Ep. 6 on Sunday, Ep. 7 yesterday, we’ll watch Ep. 8 tomorrow, and the Mandalorian on Thursday. Our tickets are for Friday morning at 11am. My friend who is into Star Wars like I am doesn’t go until Sunday afternoon. He better hope I don’t explode with a bunch of spoilers via text accidentally between Friday afternoon and then. I’ll do my best to restrain myself.

Reviews, which are not full yet, seem to be flying around indicating “mixed” reviews.

I suspect it will end up being, “JJ did his best to salvage what story he could after Rian Johnson stole all the ending material for the middle movie.”

I mean, even Rian Johnson admitted he put zero thought into Episode IX. I know when asked, he said, “Oh, I don’t have anything to do with that movie.” In the end, Kathy Kennedy deserves a lot of blame for allowing all the major plot shifts that happened in Episode VII to happen. I mean:

  • Phasma died
  • Snoke died
  • Luke died
  • Rey’s parents discussed(true or not)

Kind of stole a lot of thunder.

I hear people are questioning JJ’s decision to do the entire third act in claymation.

And the Porkins arc was a little contrived.

I just wish the narration was in any language other than Shyriiwook.

Slate didn’t like it, but for the same reasons that lots of people here will probably love it.

Beware, the review includes some potential minor spoilers.
