Star Wars Episode IX anticipation thread

Looks we’ll have a trailer either on the 14th or 21st. Not sure which, but pretty soon.

Tickets are now on sale.

Trailer just dropped on mnf. I’ll want to rewatch it tomorrow, but it looked like the

Millennium Falcon was destroyed

Trailer online.
Can’t say anything about the movie, but they sure know how to put together a trailer!
ETA: Run time of 155 minutes(!)

Got my tickets. And I have to say, Kylo Ren striding out of the crashing waves holding his red saber made me feel like I’m 9 years old again, watching Darth Vader strike down Obi-Wan.

Whoah, where did you see that?

I’ve been able to watch trailers and even the last couple movies like I’m a 9 year old fanboy. I highly recommend shelving your inner Film Critic, and just enjoying the spectacle.

Unless you’re drunk at my house, hilariously trashing the prequels while we try to watch the Holiday Special…

That’s a long trailer!

Total speculation here but I’m going to spoil it anyway:

When C-3PO was talking “to his friends”, it wasn’t C-3PO but the Millennium Falcon (which we learned in Solo has a droid as part of the computer) talking through him.

Not going to spoiler this, since we didn’t spoiler box stuff when the first trailer dropped.

That’s a neat theory enalzi. 3PO did call Poe “sir”, which you wouldn’t expect L3-37 to do, but he did have those wires in the back of his head, and it makes a lot more sense that they’d have to sacrifice the Falcon to win than that they’d have to sacrifice 3PO.

I noticed the trailer was done much the same as the Avengers:Infinity War trailer - with voiceovers from all the main characters saying something semi-profound.

My bad, upon re-watching, it looks like the thing I thought was the Millennium Falcon’s cockpit (at 1:48) looks more like the Emperor’s throne room.

Quite the opposite - this made no sense at all.

Sure, it’s a good thing if The Force is for everyone. But let’s go back to the original Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back. Luke doesn’t just pick up an aptitude in The Force out of nowhere; whatever his inherent talent, he needed training from Obi-Wan and Yoda to become good at it.

That’s why you need the Jedi in the Star Wars universe: if you don’t have some group like them, there’s nowhere to go to find people to help you figure out what you can do with The Force if you seem to have some aptitude in that direction.

The notion that you somehow democratize it by getting rid of the Jedi and all their works is true, I guess, but in the reductive way of nobody ever being able to be any good at using The Force.

That’s a false dichotomy, I think. Here in our world, we have people who teach important and valuable skills like reading, tuba-playing, and calculus to anyone who wants to learn them, but we don’t need a special elite of readers, tuba-players, and calculus-doers to do it. You need someone teaching use of The Force, but that someone doesn’t need to be structured like the Jedi.

Agreed. And it sort of implies that all people have some connection with the Force. That’s far more in line with Obi-Wan’s teachings - meager though they are - that it binds all life together. We are ALL part of the Living Force. Some may be more in tune with it, but all people are at least a little connected.

A cavalry charge on top of a Star Destroyer? I’m in.

A few questions:

  1. Was that Billy Dee?

  2. Is Fin a Jedi wanna-be or force sensitive or something? First movie implied he was special in some way and had him fighting with a lightsaber and the second movie treated him more like comic relief. I like the character but I have a hard time fully understanding his role in the universe other than someone Rey can count on.

  3. Is it me or does it look like Rey has been wearing the same clothes for several movies ? Those Jedi/Sith robes are bad ass are I think it’s about time she gets an upgrade.

  1. Yes - 'Star Wars': Billy Dee Williams Returning as Lando Calrissian in 'XI'

  2. Yeah, Finn is a little odd. He runs away a lot, but winds up saving the day in the end as well.

  3. Yes, it’s the same clothes she was wearing when she was a scavenger on not-Tatooine. They appear to have been washed though.

Dear People Who Make Star Wars,

For the love of all things Star Wars, DO NOT KILL OFF LANDO! He is the original Black Man In The Future and if you kill him off all we got left is Finn. If you do kill him I will be very upset and slightly less likely to watch your upcoming movies.

Please feel free to consider this a dubious threat.

Thanks for listening and I look forward to The Rise of Skywalker.

Excuse me?

Did you see that John Favreau shared a production still from the Mandalorian and it included a shot of a prop like the ice cream maker?
