It’s no different than most other fantasy and sci fi stuff (except for anime which seems like all female). Look at Lord of the Rings. They had to create some female characters.
But, this is Disney. The movie will be designed to #1. sell stuff #2 be politically correct (meaning nobody offended and have a gay character) #3 sell more stuff, #4 and then and only then will they give a damn about an actual plot.
I’m cautiously optimistic. Some bright new actors, and the old farts we all know and love. I generally trust Abrams to strike the right balance between nostalgia and striking off in new directions.
I’ve read that all Disney movies are gay because they have a little girl who is strong, intelligent and wants to do her own thing. Or, there’s a gag with men wearing womens’ clothes. Because that’s what all young gay kids growing up need to inspire them. :rolleyes:
