Star Wars Rebels

Both Tuskens and Stormtroopers use plot-guided ammunition.

Yea, but in the movies, at least the characters don’t appear to be aware of their plot armour. In Rebels, the protagonists will non-nonchalantly have conversations while standing out in the open in front of twenty stormtroopers with guns ablazin’

I imagine its partly the fault of the reduced budget for the show (versus that of Clone Wars). All those extra shots of characters ducking and weaving cost money, so they combine them with dialogue shots. But than animating characters talking and running around at the same time is hard, so they end up just standing there, and occasionally giving a half-hearted dive for cover.

Well, you can kill the Stormtroopers because they aren’t “people”. They’re white uniforms and could just be robots (like in Samurai Jack where he slaughtered robots indiscriminately but not real people). It’s that impersonal thing that makes it acceptable for a kids show.

It’s that it’s on prime time and cable and not daytime and broadcast that makes it acceptable. Much less stringent Standards and Practices departments.

jedis are aewsome may the force be with you

I wasn’t really meaning why can the show have them getting killed, I meant how are the crew of the Ghost not the Empire’s most wanted at this point. Darth flipping Vader should be on Lothal right now hunting them down, every Trooper on the planet should be hunting them 24/7.

In one of the recent episodes the kid infiltrates the Imperial academy on Lothal and escapes with a piece of tech, the Inquisitor recognizes his picture immediately. And now they have a pefectly clear pic of him at least. One of the aliens in the crew is one of if not the last of his species and is seven feet tall.

It just is not believable at this point that they can continue to hang out on Lothal or operate there, wanted posters for them should be in every post office etc. It would be like Osama Bin Laden strolling around NYC in his usual look and no one noticing him.

Something that may or may not be significant, Ezra was born on the day the Empire was founded. Isn’t that the same day as Luke/Leia?

It’s not like they have the plans for a planet destroying super weapon or a traitorous senator on their team, they’re like a few gnats annoying the Empire here and there. Of which there are probably many such cells floating around. That’s the public view anyway.

They have a jedi, though, which makes it a more sensitive situation, and why they probably want the inquistor handling things, hopefully on the down low.

Also, those of us who grew up during the '80s were experiencing the high-water mark for non-violence in cartoons. Things have relaxed considerably from the days when S&P wouldn’t allow Superfriends to show Batman punching a guy.

Still watching? They came back with new episodes.

One episode features Yoda, and the next Lando Calrissian - voiced by Frank Oz and Billy Dee Williams, respectively.

Spoiler for the episode coming out Feb 2 (which I have already seen, I guess the torrent people got it early?) and a theory from my brother about a tie from this show to Episode 7:

In this episode, Ezra runs into the kid he made friends with in Stormtrooper School. The one who was there to avenge his sister. The kid is now a Stormtrooper, but still a “mole.” Since he happens to be a black guy, my brother is positing that he’s the “black guy stormtrooper” from the Episode 7 trailer.

I’m pretty sure the ages don’t work out. That character is the same generation as Luke, who I believe is supposed to be more or less Mark Hamil’s age by the time of Episode 7.

Almost exactly the same age. Ezra was born on the day Palpatine declared himself Emperor. Luke & Leia were born a few days later.

Agreed! They are almost Easter Eggs. For example I remember first seeing the Gangster in the most recent episode many years ago as a rejected idea for Jabba the Hutt. They showed a model of him in From Star Wars to Jedi: A Making of a Saga.

Time to resurrect the dead. Thread that is.

Anyone still watching? I’ve enjoyed this season so far, but the Blood Sisters episode annoyed the fuck out of me.
So they just casually expose Senator Organa -and- their entire organization to her underworld friend???

WTF?
I’m still watching! I am really enjoying this season. I think because there’s less tension with Ezra and everyone is working as a team.

I didn’t think of that, Chimera. But it’s a good point. Perhaps since it’s a Disney kids’ cartoon we’re not supposed to be that cynical.

I don’t have the cable so I haven’t seen the new season yet but my son and I are working through the first season again. This is a pretty good show and though I think Ezra building a lightsaber was a little too soon, I can chalk that up to the compressed timeline of the season schedule. I’ll go with that.

And I am also super happy to see the Imperial Troop Transports in the show. My friend had one when we were kids and it’s cool to see it “official” now. As I understand it, the troop transport was always “just off-screen” in A New Hope.

So are Kanan* and Hera knockin boots, or does he really go all in for that “Jedis can’t date” nonsense? Because they totally seem like a couple.
*I have no idea if that’s how his name is spelled, some of the names in Star Wars are harder to spell than others, if I’m wrong and it bothers you, go yell at a bantha

I’ve assumed from the start that they’re a couple. She calls him “love”, a term she doesn’t use for anyone else on the Ghost’s crew. I suspect that any Jedi prohibitions for Kanan went away when the Order did.

Over the past couple of months, Marvel has been releasing a pretty good comic series about Kanan, focusing on how he survived after Order 66 (he was a padawan when the Jedi were wiped out). Spoilered in case anyone wants to read the comics:

He went to ground with some criminals, and did quite a bit that was definitely not “lawful good”, in the name of surviving. No mention in that series (so far) about anything resembling a romance, but given how he doesn’t seem to be worrying about following the Jedi Code in other ways, it wouldn’t surprise me one bit.

I’m assuming that Kanan and Hera are effectively married, or whatever the Star Wars equivalent is. I think it’s been a while since Kanan thought of himself as a Jedi.

It is good to see Rex again, I loved Rex and Kanan fighting together, “I’ll pull you shoot”. The first season really made me nostalgic for the old star wars game, and it was good to see Vader having some fun.

The Star Wars equivalent is just married, going by Anakin/Padme. At least for Naboo anyway. I suppose other planets may differ.
