Well, you could technically pre-order at some places before, but as of a few hours ago pre-orders are officially open with bonuses and all.
I’ve preordered the (rather pricy) physical collector’s edition, I would’ve gone digital, but the physical one had all the digital collector features + more, so I decided to go with the physical. One key is that if you do it early you get a color stone to change your lightsaber color, as well as early game access whenever they decide to open it. 500,000 copies will be processed for early access, but only the first 50k are guaranteed.
My recommendation: preorder from Origin or Amazon if you do it online, I ordered from Gamestop and didn’t get a code for an hour or so, so I got it from Origin, got the code in under two minutes and cancelled my Gamestop preorder. I’ve heard that Amazon is pretty on the ball. Alternatively, if you physically pre-order it anywhere you’ll get the code on the receipt.
Finally something tangible. I ordered the digital deluxe edition via the EA store, I want that holo dancer :), I would have liked everything in the physical deluxe edition apart from the statue so considered that a waste of money.
So anyone thought about faction? A Doper guild? I think you can play on any server no matter what your location.
Preordered a CE from Amazon this morning and got my code in (roughly around 0630 EST). Fingers crossed that I made the cut for early access!
Also, I noticed Amazon had a release date of 12/31 (new year’s eve, really?) and a delivery estimate of 1/4 – any idea if they’ll change this to release-day delivery between now and then? I’m hoping hey do, since it’s normally what they offer for preorders.
Hmm… I don’t know. In the past, when I’ve tried to play the evil characters in the KotoR games they were pretty black and white. Maybe they’ll add some ambiguity in - like WoW’s Horde - but I generally think the Sith are pretty nasty characters.
Late November seems to be the typical “holiday release” time frame. That doesn’t mean that they may not slide the date to the right if they encounter serious bugs or imbalance during the beta testing period. (When is beta?)
From what I understand, you can do light and dark side regardless of what faction you are. So you can be a Sith Inquisitor (force sensitive caster class) you can choose to be light or dark side, regardless of the fact that they’re (obviously) part of the Sith Empire.
Yoda tried to teach the philosophy that powerfull emotions (anger & hate, specifically, and possibly love) lead to too much melodrama. He felt that the Jedi Order (as he envisioned it) should be “detached” from their feelings. Anakin whines about this when he wants to marry his princess.
A “good” Sith is one that does not try to deny that humans/humanoids have these emotions within themselves, and instead embrace them, looking for ways to channel those urges and energies to useful ends.
This could be seen as “playing with fire”, from a certain point of view.
This may be stupidity on my part but I can’t seem to find the Collector’s Edition on Amazon. Only the regular one. Even the link to Amazon from the site linked in the OP goes to nothing on Amazon.
Edit: Duh I found it. Searches didn’t bring it up but the link on their main page was a subtle clue…
Yep that seems the case all classes earn light or dark side points depending on decisions they make. Not sure what this means for the traditional jedi=good, sith=evil role but that was always too simplistic in the movies, the books had more grey.

Cool. I figured it couldn’t be as simplistic as the old games.
Bad guy:“That old guy owes me money! Go take it from him!”
Old Man:“But now I can’t eat and can’t pay my rent. I’ll be killed!”
<you have earned DARK SIDE points>
I wasn’t sure what they were planning, but I admit I haven’t been following the news that closely the past few months.
I went to buy the collecters edition from Amazon last night and they were out already. So I went to the SW:TOR website to pre-order and Origin is out of collectors edition too so I bought the Deluxe digital download.
To be fair, KOTOR II (which, admittedly, wasn’t Bioware) had some good moments of Kreia fucking with your head and showing you why your good actions weren’t actually good (such as giving a guy in debt money and then him getting mugged down the road because he has money).
