Oooh boy, game interupted. I recieved my Linux for Dummies in the mail yesterday, so have started studying that and am going for installing tonight. If my computer doesn’t crash I can start playing again.
I’m not sure of the level name, but I just finished the one where you first get battle cruisers and you have to kill the Protoss without destroying and Zerg buildings. The little hottie ghost gets stuck in the Zerg infestation at the end. Looking forward to the next slaughter…
Ahhh, now Starcraft is my game of choice.
I am a scourge of Bnet with it. My long experience has taught me well. Can’t say I have a favorite race to play with, I like’em all. Zerg for their quick manouverability, Protoss for their neat hi tech stuff, and Terrans for the kick ass Tanks and goliaths!
Did you get the expansion pack with your set? Medics changed the game completely for me. 1 medic for every 2-3 infantry and they are almost unkillable.
I’m now solid on the infantry. With a spattering of seige tanks. Ok, a large spattering, and a few battle cruisers for good measure. Millions of missile turrets line every cliff.
I still haven’t played with the bugs or protos. No real intrest, really. I having fun playing humans with bad attitudes. "If it moves, and isn’t human… KILL IT!!! Learning to play the other races would probably reduce my xenophobia, which is half the fun of the game.
Online SDMB Starcraft sounds good to me… real good.
Quoth mrblue92:
Ha! My Guardians laugh at your silly little Lockdowns! My typical attack force consists of a dozen Guardians and either two dozen Mutalisks or 8 Devourers and 16 Mutas, if I have 'em, with 3-6 Queens and several Overlords for support. Kills most things (including dewt’s turrets) before they even know they’re in range. Psi storms are pesky, but they do their damage over time: if you move your units immediately, they’ll survive. If I’m up against Protoss, I’ll usually try to Spawn Broodlings any Templars before moving in with the main force.
By the way, Demo, if that’s all the farther you’ve gotten, you may be in for a bit of a surprise…
So, when’s a good time for multiplayer? I tend to lose the psych battle against other humans, but I can beat the computer every time. Need more human practice
I have a cable modem. I’m up for an online game. Who else, and when is best? (include your time zone)
I just got my DSL set up, so I’m good to go. I’m in CA and tend to go to bed around midnight (I know, I’m getting old). It’s been over a year since I last played, though…
Oh, might I add that Goliaths with the range upgrade (BW) is not half bad. I still prefer wraiths for my anti-air, but I’ve been known to use a few groups of Goliaths as mobile point base defense forces against air, depending on who I’m playing against (human players, that is, not race). And damn it all, if you people distract me from Deus Ex…
DSL here, and up for a game any time late at night. NYC.
I’ll play as any race too.
Best cheesy tactic for the Zerg… build nothing but Hydralisks. You build four hives in a group, and select all twelve of the larva that they’d collectively produce, and build Hydras. Soon, you can have a hundred and fifty of the bastards, and simply overrun the enemy base.
I also suggest that everyone get the expansion pack (shouldn’t be too expensive by now).
Important B.Net information for Newbies:
A - Train yourself to get your war machine (i.e.- minerals, gas, units… especially your first-level fighting units) going REALLY quickly. A few seconds of delay at the opening of the game can cost you the fight.
B - Build your defenses close to your main base at first… otherwise, a rush can simply run past your pair of bunkers and take out all your ore production within a few moments.
Cool. I’m just in Jersey. I have a buddy who loves to play. I’ll see if I can set something up.
Soulsling- How late is late?
I’ve got AOL, but I can compensate for the lag by turning off music and portraits…it’s a sacrifice, but…
And I’m equally good with all three…I absolutely hate Zerg though. I dont know why, I just do. I’m alright with them, but MAN do I hate playing as them. IMO Protoss are the best, but Terrans are the most fun to play with.
And my fav. strategy is to have 2 groups of zealots by the time your opponent has, well, anything. If you’re looking for a quick rush, I’m your man. =) How many people here actually have the Expansion?
Of course, the problem is that they have no air-to-air capability… My favorite units are fully upgraded wraiths and carriers; the muty’s seem to be more fragile (but quicker to produce). I use more combined arms tactics if I have to, but most of the single player scenarios can be easily beaten with massed air attack directed at the proper pressure points.
Wonko, soulsling, chronos:
Count me in. I’m in Jersey too, and any time PM is usually cool for me. E-mail if you want to get a game (you can usually catch me on AIM ICQ or MSN as well).
I prefer terrans and protoss, but I’ve been known to play zerg on occasion, too.
I like to have my first bunker/cannon/colony be in a position to cover both my base and peon (sp?) line. Because even though it could take out any marines or zerglings that attempt to run past, a zealot will be able to walk past and straight into the peon line. Also, with the number of stealthy units in BW, it’s also good to have a detector (missile turret, etc.) next to the peon line, otherwise one good lurker drop will knock you out roughly mid-game. (It’s ridiculous how easy this is against some players…)
Chocobo: I have the expansion. As for protoss, you should experiment with the exceedingly early rush. Build one zealot, start on a second. When the second is, say, 2/3 done, send the first one to find a base, go past any defenses, straight into the peon line. Most people will build their defenses in such a way that it’ll cover their base and troop creation building, but often leave at least part of the peon line unprotected. Wipe out half their peons - all you can really hope for - early and the game’s over for that guy.
I have the expansion and probably wouldn’t pose a threat to anyone playing without it. Medics are the thing, m’man.
And, Chronos, there’s a lot 'o them there turrets. By the time there’s anything on the map that can get through them, they are more of an advanced warning system than anything else.
KK- Usually I wait for a full group of Zealots to do that with, cause if they have enough worker units, they can all gang up on the 1 zealot and kill it, (You’d be surprised how powerful those little buggers are when they gang up), and the fact that by the time I find them, they may have more defenses than 1 zealot can survive and still do damage.
And usually by the time I have a full group of Zealots, I have 4 Gateways to go with, along with good mineral supply, so regenerating those Zealots is relatively simple and quick.
I’ve always found that one good secret to rushing is NEVER to que units (i.e. workers) so that you always have a little bit of reserve minerals in case you need em.
I have lost literally thousands of hours of my life playing Starcraft on Battle.net. If I’d spent all the time I have playing SC doing flight sims instead, I’d be certified to fly a 737 by now. It is the deepest darkest black hole timesucking game I’ve ever played. Just one or two games, I say to myself. Hours later, I stagger away from my screen wondering what the hell happened. Right now it is 6:20 am CST. Guess what I’ve been doing all night? Yep.
I bought SC the weekend it came out and I’ve been playing it ever since. It is still an outstanding game even years after its release. The Broodwar expansion back is essential, IMEO (in my expert opinion.)
zzzzzzz… must sleeeepppppp…
