Starcraft! Whoopeee!

I know it’s been out for a long time, but I just bought the boxed set this weekend and haven’t been able to stop playing. And I thought Warcraft was good? Hah! This is the coolest game I’ve ever played! Lord, please help me overcome this addiction. I’m about halfway through the human levels. The players manuals came with the CDs and they included the cheat codes, which I read. I don’t know if I’ll be able to finish the whole game without using the cheats at all. Pray for my soul…

Nah, it’s just Diablo II that we have to pray for your soul. In Starcraft, the worst that can happen to you is to be nuked by Ghosts or be slimed by some horrific insectoidal monstrosity that will then take over your body and use you as a living bomb while you endure unimaginable agony. Have fun.

I bought Starcraft as soon as it came out on Macintosh, but I can’t use it until I upgrade - my little Power PC can’t handle it. :frowning: Still, I’m looking forward to it. I even have the action figures!

Demo, be wary. You know it’s gone too far when playing Starcraft comes before making whoopeee.

Finagle, good point. I guess I still have a few months to be amused by Starcraft and the expansion set until I delve into Diablo II. I loved the first one though. Man, just hearing you talk about the Ghosts and nukes makes me want to run home and play now!!! :: gagaga ::

Action figures! Hell yeah! Where can I get some of those???
Nen, don’t worry. Things are well taken care of in that dept.

I’ll say. Very well taken care of.

I knew I shouldn’t have opened my mouth…or maybe, (s)he shouldn’t have.

Have you gotten to the level with the Ion Cannon yet? That level kicked my ass. It’s my favorite. (Talk about yer ghosts and nukes…)

You got any questions about propane, or propane accesories?

Don’t use the cheat codes…it’ll go on your permanent record. Just remember to save the game A LOT while you are playing. If you find you’ve screwed up royally go back a save or two, or even start the scenario over again, and get it right. I found that at the end of each scenario I had about five or six save points. Every time I accomplished something substantial I would save. If I made some good progress from a previous save point without major losses I’d save again replacing the previous save point.

Electronics Boutique has them–> http://www.ebworld.com

I just bought the set this weekend- I was unable to play on battle.net with my illegal burned copy, so I shelled out the thirty bucks for the dual cd/book set. It rocks! I’m currently stuck on the ion cannon mission again.

Aw yeah! That’s what I’m talkin’ about!

It’s a lot of fun, but it’s actually pretty easy. I’m currently working on getting through all of the Terran missions without any casualties, unit or building. So far, I’m halfway through mission 9 sucessfully. Terran 10 (The Hammer Falls), with the Ion Cannon, is the first difficult mission in the game; I’m anxious to see if I can get through it without screwups. Other difficult missions include Zerg 3 (The New Dominion), Zerg 9 (The Invasion of Aiur), Protoss 3 (Higher Ground), and Protoss 10 (Eye of the Storm), the last mission. The missions in the expansion set are generally more difficult and more fun, but the storyline in the expansion sucks. You have been warned.

No, I haven’t memorized all of the mission names… Yet.

Ahh… StarCraft…

Here’s a tip: Don’t bother with vultures or Goliaths. And go easy on the infantry. In fact, the only ground units that you should pump out in bulk are the Siege Tanks, as these should be in place throughout the entire game. Most everything else should be air attack. This assumes that you have all the units, of course… if you don’t have BC’s (BattleCruisers), don’t waste your time with too many Wraiths.

Lemme know when you’re doing Zerg and Protoss.

Wow. What a coincidence. I started playing Starcraft again about a fortnight ago too!!

I’d never played the single player levels - my friends much preferring to beat the rookie up in multiplayer games - but have enjoyed it. Admittedly it’s a bit easier after the trials and tribulations of Age of Empires II but it’s still fun nonetheless.

Maybe we should all meet online sometime and have the SDMB of all battles?
(and I prefer playing Protos myself)

MY fav. strategy is to get a good income of minerals, get about 4 barracks, and pump out Marines as fast as I can. Wait until you have Stim pack and about 3-4 groups and you can waste just about anything with ease. Battlecruisers are good ONLY if you get them fully upgraded…otherwise they’ll be taken out easily by scouts and scourge.

With the above strategy, beware always of Psi Storm, used by those pesky protoss High Templar…easily one of the best units in the game. (By the way, if anyone ever wants to play a game, post it here; be warned though, i’ve got AOL)

Starcraft is great! My husband got me hooked on it shortly after it first came out and I left him in the dust on the the single-player missions. I never did make it past the 7th Protoss mission though.

I stopped playing when I got my Mac about 4 months ago, as the CD I had only had the PC version on it. I finally did get the Mac version recently but haven’t installed it yet. Hmm, the joy of working my way back up through the missions …

Hey, me too! Before I went on vacation, I started playing though all the levels again–I ended up getting exactly as far as I did the first time without cheating–Protoss 9. Haven’t had a chance to try that one again.

My strategy typically involves putting together two to five squadrons of 12 flying units (wraiths, mutalisks, or scouts/carriers), picking off the assaults the computer throws at me as I build them, and then taking my fleet and laying waste to the enemy. The nice thing about fliers is that they’re immune to many of those powerful ground troops and they’re usually speedy enough to retreat if you get in over your head, but they are vulnerable to lockdowns and psi storms unless you can keep your formations loose.

“Fire it up!”
