Stardew Valley

My game blocks me from planting a fruit tree with the “too close to another tree” warning. Am I to believe that if it lets me plant it, that it is clear and will grow? I haven’t put anything to block it since then.

Looks like the game has sold over a million copies. Neat.

I remember my first autumn fair. I just wanted the stardrop. Before having my grange judged, I got up to maybe three hundred points, mostly from lucky streaks on that roulette wheel. I decided to hell with it, I’ll get my grange points, gamble them, and save scum if necessary. Fortunately it didn’t come to that, as I won the spin.

I’ve found energy to be much less important in year 2, though, so stardrops aren’t as enticing as they used to be. I’ve got a big field with sprinklers, so I only water a few side crops. It’s a non-issue in the cavern, because I go through a fair bit of food just trying to keep my health up. I suppose I could go out into the forest to chop trees, but time is more often a limiting factor than energy.

Oh, and a little tip for the Skull Cavern: Since time is of the essence for getting to lower levels, don’t get bogged down with those “This area is infested.” floors. If you see that message, just craft a staircase and use it to to the next floor down (make sure you have plenty of stone on hand).

Does anyone know if the developers are planning major updates for the future, as with Terraria and Minecraft? I can think of a dozen nifty features they could add.

For example, growing coffee beans. I’ve become addicted to the stuff that Gus sells, and it would be cool to grow my own (heh) in the greenhouse.

The dev is still working on updates. If you want to keep track, he’s @ConcernedApe on Twitter and /r/ConcernedApe on Reddit.

I wouldn’t expect it to be updated to the same extent as Terraria; they set an absurdly high bar.

Are saved games transferable between computers? I mean, if I take my gog.com game(installed in a generic Programfiles folder) and copy the save folder over to a friend who has a copy off steam, can I just find the save folder and load mine up?

I think they must be, because one of the things the pirates in my OP were talking about was how their pirated save games were compatible with Steam after they went and bought a legit version.

So I’ve reached the first day of Year Two – spent the last few in-game days carefully creating the perfectly-sized farm plots, adding sprinklers and rarecrows, and doing the math on exactly how much money I’d need to buy all the seeds, plow & fertilize and water everything. (I swear, games like this bring out the hidden accountant in me…) If I hurry and act efficiently, it’s possible to get all the work in one day, though it’s gonna be close…

…and then, Leah shows up at my door (I had proposed to her a few days earlier) and invites me to her Art Show in the town square at 3pm. ON THE FIRST PLANTING DAY OF THE SEASON. :smack:

Aren’t Steam save games stored on the cloud?

I’m starting to feel like the storyline’s reached a dead end, unless there’s something I’m doing wrong. Reaching the bottom floor of the mines was underwhelming, to say the least (what, no boss monster??? And the skull key unlocks the sewers right?) I haven’t unlocked the desert bus yet, though – do I have to get there to progress the story?

Also, it’s rather weird that certain NPC’s won’t reach 10 hearts unless you “date” them first. Dating Alex & Sebastian didn’t bother me so much (Sebastian’s 10-heart cutscene was rather cute) but dating the creepy doctor’s gonna make me feel oogy…

Also also, some of the cutscenes seemed to play out of order, for some reason. I’ve already reached the 10-heart cutscene with Alex, but later on I triggered a cutscene on the beach where Alex was asking me what my name was… (unless he was jealous that I danced with Sebastian instead of him at the Flower Dance?)

Also also also, is there a better way to get hardwood besides the secret forest?

Secret forest is the best place for hardwood. Bonus stumps are in the southernmost portion, too. Skull key opens a dungeon that is, I believe, in the desert. No idea on the sewers, though.

The skull key opens the skull cavern in the desert, which is like a harder version of the mines. The deeper you go, the better your chances of getting precious, precious iridium. You’re really fighting the clock, though.

They can be, but they’re primarily stored on your computer.

The sewers can be opened by a key you get from the librarian after you give him a certain number of artifacts, I think when you’re roughly halfway through with the collection.

Well, I made the biggest bonehead mistake ever. The reason I was grinding hardwood was because I didn’t like where my stable was built; it was usable, but completely obscured by the chicken coop so I couldn’t actually see it. Unfortunately, the place I chose to rebuild it happened to be BLOCKING MY WARP SPOT at home!!! So I had to demolish & rebuild it *again…*oh, and did you know that Bait Makers also use 25 hardwood? Yikes…

Ok, I must’ve gotten both keys on the same day, or didn’t notice the sewer key when I got it. Finally found the Skull Cavern, though I haven’t gone inside yet.

I reached the bottom of the mines. It said I got the key, but don’t see it anywhere. Does anyone know where it shows? Or does it not show at all?

It’s in your wallet, reachable by looking at the skill level section.

Answering my own question. Yes, you can carry your save on a flash drive if you want.

Yeah, I went to the Skull Cavern and the monsters totally wrecked my face. I don’t see how it’s even possible to reach level 120 without building a billion staircases. I also discovered that the skull key also unlocks the Joja Cart video game in the saloon, pretty cool.

Got married to Leah, we’re having a baby soon. It’s cool that she will sometimes water the plants & stuff, though I was slightly disappointed that the game doesn’t show her actually doing it; just would’ve been a nice touch (in a game which has no shortage of nice touches.)

So I didn’t realize that the barn and coop upgrades were straight up upgrades and not just new building to buy. I just put my two in random spots assuming I would destroy them after I got the new buildings in the spot I want. Now I need to build new ones where I want them, destroy the old ones, and upgrade.

I just stared winter of year 2, and I think I’m close to getting my fill of the game for now. I want to finish the community center, but I’m short by two apples.

I just discovered something worth passing along: Krobus, the dude in the sewers, sells different things on different days of the week. The wiki says that he sells iridium sprinklers on Fridays. They’re not cheap, but they’re probably worth it if you don’t like the Skull Cavern.

Is that for the Bulletin Board bundle? That one only bumps up your friendship with villagers by a small amount, so it’s not a huge priority. In fact, in hindsight I probably shouldn’t have finished the community center at all, since it does make some minor but annoying changes to some NPC’s rountines (and I mean beyond JojaMart closing down.)

Also, be advised that at the start of Year 3, Grandpa’s ghost will give you a machine that’s a wee bit game-breaking. I think it’s dependent on how many accomplishments you’ve made so far, though.

He also sells an Omni Geode dirt cheap on Tuesdays. And if you’re swimming in cash and really want to grind for iridium ore & prismatic shards, Sandy in the desert sells unlimited Omni Geodes on Wednesdays. They’re 1,000gp each so it’s very pricey, but that’s how I finally got my Galaxy Sword.
