Stargate SG-1 Question

Oh yes, I remember that now. The first season was pretty uneven, so I am willing to forget a lot about it. Except for the naked chick.

But remember that a stargate can only stay open for 38 minutes before it shuts down automatically (except for that one time). I think we can assume that if someone was partially through when that happened that they would be cut in two?

What wold happen if they used the 'gate during an Ion Storm though?

If Col O’Neill entered Samantha’s worm hole from behind, he’d probably get a sexual harassment charge filed against him. That’s why it’s better to approach from the front.

Gozer comes through and takes over the world.

No–shooting things through it continually is how they kept it open for longer than 38 minutes. OF course, it had to be a heck of a lot of energy, so a single body might not be enough. But you don’t have to wait that long–it seems it shuts down automatically earlier if you aren’t specifically trying to keep it open.

That inconsistency could be explained by the fact that the earth DHD is a home-made hack built on Earth rather than one of the original units built by the ancients. IIRC it was mentioned in the series at some point that the DHD at SGC is missing a lot of the safeguards built into the real units. Presumably the ‘don’t shut down the gate if someone’s halfway through’ safeguard is present on the real units but not on the Earth gate DHD.

The earth gate is also the only one we ever see, that has the spinning dealie.

They all have the spinning dealie, its like a manual backup or something. They had to use it at least once when trapped on a planet with no DHD, while connecting a generator to the gate to power it. It’s like rotary vs touch tone, I guess.

I did remember that episode after I posted, but I think that was the only other time. They had what they called a Travel Gate without moving parts they used on location.

Edit: oh I see what you mean now.

i think, in early episodes, the prop gate they used when on on location probably didn’t have the spinning dealie, so they always avoided showing it.

IIRC, in later series, they started adding a CGI gate in post, so they didn’t have that problem.

Good clarification. I knew that, but it’s been a few years since I really paid much attention to the shows (I lost interest after SG-1 was cancelled), and I’d forgotten the detail on how the iris would kill you.

I’ve actively avoided SGU, so that’s news to me.

On one episode of Stargate Atlantis a jumper was stuck halfway through an orbiting Stargate. (IIRC it was because some sort of landing gear or atmospheric fins didn’t retract.) The entire episode was about them desperately trying to get unstuck before the 38 minutes ran out and the jumper was sliced in half. So apparently at least the gates in the Pegasus Galaxy didn’t have such a safeguard, or at least Rodney was under the impression that they didn’t.

I think I may have seen that episode. Is that the one where everyone makes fun of Rodney and then later he saves the day with a Brilliant but Dangerous Solution all while people are badgering him for not finding the Brilliant but Dangerous Solution? That was a good one! IIRC, that was the one with Fabio in it.

Yea, that was the one.
