Start of summer MMP

My city has a whale. There’s a humpback whale in the river.

Life is odd these days.

I have mowed, including a lot of push mowing and a pass along the path thru the woods. Then I went to not-too-terrible Chinese to get lunch for me and my sweetie. The portions were big enough for 2 meals each, so I guess I’m not cooking supper!

I think I may pick a book off one of the shelves and read for a while.

Lazy day here today. Very brief power outage (less than 5 min), but I’m now obsessing about those cute USB external phone batteries I have, and am making sure they’re fully charged. Theoretically, DH’s new computer chair is arriving today, but for some reason the Jungle cannot provide tracking for the shipment. Weather’s a bit unsettled today. I woke up to bright sun and blue sky, we’re now intermittently going from fully overcast to partly cloudy (both feature some nastily dark-gray clouds). Some forecasts call for possible thunderstorms.

I tend to prefer to get restaurant food to-go anyway, so lack of dine-in doesn’t bother me all that much, really. I’ve gotten rather misanthropic in my current job, and would prefer to not be around many people when I’m not irking. I even get annoyed/resentful if there’s an unexpected knock on my door, since it feels like an intrusion on my personal time/freedom that I’ve gotten a lot more protective of for some reason.

On the plus side, DH is showing more interest in photography (one of his hobbies) and even had his microscope out for use when I got up, which he doesn’t do all that much lately. His appetite seems to be improving, too, which is good, since we have not yet gotten him back up to even 140lb (at his height, that’s nowhere near enough).

Morning, friends (probably afternoon by the time I post, but whatever

No rain today. No carpenters since it’s the weekend. They didn’t get a whole lot done, but I suppose they made some progress.

Been looking at Amazon for bedding. I never did get the stuff I wanted from Walmart and never did get myself a birthday present, so I’m browsing Amazon. Lots of choices. Lots of them are expensive. So I’ll fantasize about splurging on something pretty and good-quality and end up either buying the cheapest I can find or just giving up on the idea.

Smoke detector (I assume) is beeping every minute or so and announcing, “low battery,” but it seems to be coming from the basement, so I will have to wait for someone else to get here to shut it off/change the battery.

I had ambitions of putting together a casserole to freeze today. I really should get on it because those vegetables aren’t going to last forever.

One of our favorite restaurants has opened for dine in service. We had chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes covered with country gravy and a side of glazed carrots. It was great to sit across from Sunflower and talk about how we would spend the rest of the weekend.

Howdy Y’all! We got Bishop Frank all Ordained/Consecrated this mornin’. The down side was it bein’ via video instead of in person. The upside is it was all done within an hour and a half, where as in person, it would have gone on at least three hours what with Communion and all. After that we spent some quality time at the cee-mint pond. It would get cloudy, then N.O.S., then cloudy, then N.O.S., lather, rinse, repeat. We came in around three and showered. I noshed a sammich a little bit ago. OYKW had done so earlier. I have some chikin tenders marinatin’ for tomorrow’s N.O.L. They shall be grilled and eaten upon a sallit, with cheesey garlic bread. Brownies with ice cream and hot fudge sauce shall be dessert. We shall deheathenate, eat, and then have more quality cee-mint pond time as tomorrow promises to be N.O.S. and hawt.

We have not been out to eat yet, even though a bunch of restaurants are open. Just not feelin’ good about that as of yet.

Nettie when I irked in a call center type environment, the last thing I wanted to deal with off irk was people. Really brought out the curmudgeon in me!

The town cleanup was disorganized, but still a success, from our standpoint anyway. Four pickup loads of stuff was disposed of. The ‘boys’ did the first 2 trips. The 'womenfolk did the third trip, and the teenager did the last trip alone 'cause he wanted to listen to ‘his music’ (which sux). The predicted tunderboomers haven’t materialized, yet. It’s 89F here at 2pm and sunny. We brought a window A/C unit with us and stuck it in the living room window and it helps.

The town is semi-full of tourists standing or wandering about. We just walked down to the grocery store. They are still making everybody who comes in use the hand sanitizer station, but aren’t insisting on masks. We, being ‘at risk’ oldersters, are still taking precautions. I’ll be glad when all this is resolved.

I liked ‘zoo meetings’ too. Wifey missed her regular firday afternoon zoomed ‘happy hour’ with her office peeps yesterday. I like them 'cause I always get a cocktail at the same time, but don’t have to talk to anybody iffen I don’t want to.

Later.

swampy, this isn’t my first call center, but it’s the one that’s had the worst effects on me personally. Bonus points: there’s a steadily growing suspicion among my co-irkers that we’re about to lose our contract, what with another company being brought in and taking (and screwing up) the most basic routine stuff. Suspicion is that the bank we’re contracted to is going cheapskate, but I’m sure that’ll cost them their contract for one state’s UI/PFL/SDI benefit cards, since according to great-grandboss, the contract requires that a certain percentage of calls be taken by agents based in that state, and if the bank’s doing the move we suspect they are, that doesn’t look to be happening.

I just ordered a small greenhouse. I have been wanting to grow veggies, but the stoopit squirrels here won’t let me harvest. I found a good spot in the yard that gets 6-8 hours of sun and I’ll only have to move a few plants. It’ll be delivered in about 3 weeks, which is fine.

I’ll get to try a trick I saw when we lived in FL - take a bag of composted manure, cut an X in it and plant a 'mater. No weeding, minimal watering, lots of nutrients, easy-peasy.

And I’ll have a go at growing salad greens. And other stuff - I need to figure it out. Yay!

Meanwhile, supper will probably be the rest of lunch, because I ain’t cooking.

FCM that is sooooo coooooooooool! Putting THAT on my “dreams for if I ever get better” list for sure. The kid has been interested in greenhouses ever since we talked about the greenhouse effect- keeps talking about how she wishes we could fill the back sunroom with plants and put the feral cats somewhere else.

I got my casserole made! I know that’s normal-average-Wednesday for most of you, but it was a project for me. It turned out decently well. I had some for earlyish dinner tonight and stuck the rest in the freezer. Anyone have any great vegetarian casserole (or other large-batch meals that I can freeze) recipes? I actually discovered that I have a decent-sized sort of stock pot thing, too, so I may go for a soup next. Thing is- I don’t particularly like beans, although lentils are okay and I like chickpeas. So I’m not a big fan of chilis and most of the “southwest enchilada bake” things are… meh. Lots of the recipes I’m finding are really complicated, too, but I suppose can probably become less complicated. They seem to take for granted that if you’re searching “vegetarian xyz recipes” that you’d actually rather have them vegan and sugar-free and with cauliflower in place of the rice. Yo, I just want to be able to throw this together with five ingredients and pop it in my freezer so that I have something to eat on the vast-majority-of-nights when I can barely move and just need some kind of sustenance so that I don’t feel even worse the next day. I have access to Walmart and literally no ingredients that don’t come from there, so please get out of here with your nutritional yeast and tom kha base, mommy bloggers. I’m glad you’re fancy. I’m just trying to make it through.

Wow!

A few years back, a manatee made its way up the Mississippi to Memphis. Unfortunately, it didn’t survive. :frowning:

The car has been serviced. However, I will think twice about having my tires rotated and wiper blades replaced at the dealership in the future. Wiper blades were $30…each. I’ll find a reputable shop to use when I need them or tire rotation.

Bought groceries afterword. I didn’t realize that World Market was still curb pickup only when I drove over there for coffee beans. I like their quality, variety and price. I wound up buying them when I was at Sprout’s. We went to the dog park before picking supper up from a local seafood place. Their gumbo is really good and the grilled snapper was perfect.

Now for chillage.

Stay healthy y’all!

I’d usually write something non-consequential here and banter about with the rest of the MMPer’s, but I’m rather upset right now and need to vent. Note that some of the recent…events…are mentioned below, and I really don’t want to get into discussions here, but I need to talk and you are the bunch I trust most.

There were protests today in Boston. It included a young woman, who is the daughter of a good friend and whom I personally know, being knocked down and hauled away by police. Her crime was using milk to wash out the eyes of people who had been hit with tear gas. She belongs to a Christian church that teaches non-violence and she’s all of 110lbs.

That’s her on the ground in picture #6: https://www.nbcboston.com/news/local/photos-protesters-police-clash-in-boston/2133727/?fbclid=IwAR2Ihg5qjoixqf96kcEgHDnWaB3l3uHrpe9MP4h1EowDdT9IM_HRNzW4Jhw

She needed to go to hospital, although apparently she’s out now.

She did not offer violence. She did not throw or start trouble. She was there to minister to the needy. She’s 110lbs.

Again, I apologize for bringing a political subject to the MMP. But concern and rage are warring within me right now and I had to tell somebody. Guess you folks are my somebody.

Take care now. Normal programming will resume tomorrow.

True confession: I’ve been lurking of late. Commiserating hugs, back-pats, and fist-bumps to all.

Besides family matters, I’ve been busy helping a friend cope with general political insanity in my old town of residence. There are kindly people facing some pretty scary excoriation in various places around the country, and she’s one. So is MetalMouse’s niece.

MetalMouse, there is no normal programming now. The MMP reassures me in these very dark times.

MetalMouse, I hope your friend’s daughter will be all right.

Riots going on downtown, glad I didn’t go(asthma and tear gas don’t mix.) Making bacon cheeseburgers for dinner.

Coming back to land? Bad move:
" Many were increasingly of the opinion that they’d all made a big mistake coming down from the trees in the first place, and some said that even the trees had been a bad move, and that no-one should ever have left the oceans"

{{{{MetalMouse}}}} sadly a lot that going on. Hope your friend will be OK.

{{{metal mouse and friends}}} I hope that she has no long lasting injuries and appreciate her activism.

Like doggio, I forewent physically going to the protests for the same reasons.

Today was hard. I hope this leads to meaningful change. The world is just so heart-breaking right now.

I can’t watch the news any longer. Honestly, the only good thing I can say about it is that because of the plague, we’re not being subjected to all the political rallies and the associated BS.

On the plus side, I think I had a good sleep, in spite of the weird dreams. But it was stopped by FCD’s drug alarm. Even tho it’s annoying, it’s important that he takes the pain killers on schedule so he can function.

Big plan for today is cleaning the carpet. Roxy will be with her other grandmother and the house can stay open, so it should dry faster. Once that’s done, I need to run to (I hope) Aldi or Food Lion. I think that’s all, but we shall see. Oh, and **FCD **asked me to wash a load of afghans - it’s a good day for outside drying.

So, onward! Happy Sunday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis <snerk> 69! <snerk> Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 90 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Plans for the day call for virtual deheathenization, N.O.L., and quality time at the cee-mint pond. Today is Pentecost for those keepin’ score.

MetalMouse so sorry about your friend’s daughter. Glad she’s out of the hospital and hope she’s doin’ good today.

MOOOOOOM I don’t watch the news anymore either. I try to keep up with current events online. I agree about the wunnerful lack of politickin’.

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

First bit of chorage accomplished - the afghans are out on the lines. I think Food Lion opens at 7 - I may run down there first thing in the hopes of getting the stuff I want. Failing that, I’ll hit Aldi later.

It’s loverly and cool this morning - it was 62° when I let Higgs out and we’re not supposed to get out of the 70s, so the house can stay open - YAY!
