Starving Artist - we remember you

Whomp, here it is!

No, it wasn’t. You once claimed that I said black people got the bends because white people gave them their civil rights. I even referenced it in one of the quotes you posted.

I’m amused that you’re now trying to walk it back (and displaying your time-worn dishonesty and cowardice in the process) but we both know better, like the case of two people in an elevator – when one farts they both know who did it.

And now I’m out. Ta.

Oh, thank god. Can we start wiping down all the surfaces now?

He’s just so gross.

And I didn’t even know you were a racist, too.
Anyway, my opinion of Paterno never really changed.

Super. Take all the time you need. More, even.

He is a predictable fucker.

I think El_Kabong is probably right. How could someone get to be universally reviled on this board without doing so intentionally?

Wait for it…

I remember him babbling on once in defense of the idiot bank clerk who refused to give my married mother permission to open a bank account unless she got her husband’s signature.

Ick.

Hah, holy shit. I often read posts without bothering to really mentally affix opinions to posters, and I usually get bored of the morass of political argument threads within one or two pages…so I’d managed to not have an actual sense of who Starving Artist was until seeing his own words in this thread.

The guy is a poop!

Has anyone talked to you of paper towel tubes? How about lining up 100 ten year old boys?

That’s horrible. Seriously. That’s just disgusting.

Well, when I first arrived here with the screen name kitten_molester, it was intended purely as an innocent joke, but I quickly found out a lot of folks didn’t see it that way.

Well, at least you weren’t kitten_declawer. That guy got lynched.

As long as we’re getting all nostalgic and stuff for Great Starving Artist Train Wrecks of the Past, my personal favorite is this absolute masterpiece from 2007:

  1. S_A starts thread with the ridiculously inflammatory title “Tell me Hillary wouldn’t be a socialist dictator”

  2. As justification for the title, he says he sort of remembers that maybe 16 years previously, Mrs. Clinton had supposedly stated in public that the failed Clinton health care proposal would have made it a federal crime to use one’s own money to pay for a doctor’s care, and would have made both patient and doctor subject to prison terms

  3. He immediately claims that he’s “just looking for information”, and not argument (despite the title, and launching the thread in the Pit)

  4. Within 15 posts or so of people asking him whether he’s suffering from brain damage, he’s claiming that of course he didn’t mean dictator for reals, and how could anyone be so silly as to infer that from the thread title

  5. He then spends the rest of the thread alternating between berating other posters for not refuting his faulty memory, and rather directionless ranting about Big Government. For six pages.

If anyone ever thinks this guy has ever been on the level, just read the first thirty or so posts of the linked thread. He has no interest in this community whatsoever other than to fight with other posters. Any subject will do, and don’t let him fool ya that it’s some epic Liberals vs. Conservatives thing; that’s just a convenient excuse. It’s the fighting part that’s important.

Well, a lot of people were like that on the internet in the '50s.

Just popping in to call horseshit on this little bit of nonsense.

The truth is I usually start out foolishly thinking I can join in on a discussion and offer my point of view along with everyone else’s, and I rarely adopt an aggressive or combative tone unless and until other people begin to attack me…which, given the political tenor of this place, is generally the instant they encounter an opinion that doesn’t agree with theirs.

Two examples are my original posts in the Joe Paterno thread and tat the beginning of my participation in the two Cosby threads. My comments were reasonable, unemotional and uncombative, and posted simply for the sake of joining in on the conversation and mentioning my take on some aspects of the issue which I found to be questionable. But in each case, as soon as people determined I was saying things they disagreed with, out came the insults and accusations that I was a pedophile, a rapist, a rape enabler, etc., etc., etc. , and it was only at that point tin each thread hat I began to become combative.

That’s the way it’s gone in almost every contentious thread I’ve ever been in on this board. You people hear something you don’t like, usually with political under or overtones, and immediately you start to fly off the handle with the insults and accusations. Then when I fire back in return you accuse me of being argumentative.

I’ve said before and I’ll say again that you people have only yourselves to blame if you don’t like my posting style. When I first came here and for a considerable length of time afterward I tried being polite and tactful and to take my opponents seriously and address their points of view respectfully. It didn’t take long however to see that few people around here are interested in anything but an echo chamber and that no matter how I tried to walk on eggshells I came in for aggressive and insulting abuse anyway. So I simply decided to start giving as good as I get and here we are.

But make no mistake about it, it’s your own assholism that is responsible for whatever argumentativeness and belligerence you see coming from me. Address me in a reasonable and considerate tone and the odds are overwhelming that I’ll respond to you in the very same way. But come on to me like an aggressive, belligerent asshole and you’ll get that in return too.

Oh, well done.

Cher’s Positively Absolutely Final No, This Time I Really Mean It Tour.

Same here. I have never really engaged Starving Artist or even really had any opinion of him besides being vaguely aware of his reputation here, but this thread alone shows a level of distortion and self-delusion that, if it’s genuine, and honestly the way he sees these things, means he’s just too far gone for any reasonable discourse, and if he’s just faking it, then well, he’s certainly doing a good job at getting the attention he craves.

I mean things like this:

Make me strongly suspect it’s just an act—surely, nobody can really buy into this “One wrong way driver? There’s hundreds!” kind of logic. But then, I’ve seen how hard people can twist reality in order to uphold their self-image in various relativity-denier threads where people without even the most basic grasp of math or physics nevertheless confidently assert themselves to be smarter than Einstein and the whole deluded community of physicists—there may be something similar going on here.

Either way, I suppose I can at least be thankful for this thread making abundantly clear that absolutely no weight should be attached to SA’s posts and opinions.

It really isn’t a difficult or complex notion to understand and I’m admittedly at a loss to understand what’s so delusional about it. Be nice to me and I’ll be nice to you; act like an asshole to me and I’ll act like an asshole to you.

It’s sort of like the Golden Rule writ large.

You guys really need to accept the fact that some people are hopeless and need to be written off.
