Statistics on homosexual sex claiming to be safer sound like crap to me

I live in Madison, Wi and i read the Isthmus on a weekly basis which is where if find your articles mostly amusing and informative. One article you commented on statistics suggesting that , more like claiming that certain sex was more prone to disease and some less like oral sex. You seemed to back up the statistics about same sex anal intercourse being safer than hetersexual sex. I find this information to be ridiculous as we all know what nasty bacteria live in the rectum of humans. You may be a liberal, but preventing the leakage of faulty info. to your readers is a serious responsibility not to be taken lightly.

Welcome, travylee

Around here, they appreciate a link to the column, assuming you can provide it.

I think What are the odds of getting AIDS from ordinary heterosexual sex? is what you were referring to.

I’ll leave it to others to comment on the column.

And don’t forget to compare the Aids colums with the butt bacteria column. As should be apparent, the OP’s criticism is like comparing apples and orange juice.

I appreciate your replies, i’m pretty new to the message posting business so I’ll try to include a link.

travylee, I’m sorry, but I don’t see Cecil say that at all. The first column linked by samclem discusses HIV status and doesn’t even mention anal sex. The second column does discuss anal sex and germ transfer, but I don’t see a comparison where straight sex comes out worse off. Could you please quote where Cecil says anal intercourse is safer than penile-vaginal intercourse?

If nothing else, cite the newspaper column and someone can locate the online version.

Thanks.

What’s odd about this is that the Master did address the issue, but what he said is 180 degrees contra what the OP suggests. See Update: What are your chances of getting HIV?, which specifically identifies anal sex as riskiest along the “sex acts” axis.
