If this is a reply to me , I don’t think that’s the difference. When I said a few years younger , I meant it . When those 18 year olds were getting married in 1977, I was 14 but by the time I turned 18 things were different. I’m not sure what changed , but I don’t think openness to discussing power dynamics made that big a difference on its own.
I’d rephrase that as
Admitting there is such a thing as a “power dynamic” and that it matters or is amenable to change or negotiation is more common in recent decades.
Prior to that the received wisdom was male power, wealth power, and elder power separately and together were simply immutable laws of the Universe to be lived with. Where you personally fell in the situation or how you felt about your place in that situation was simply immaterial.
It almost seems like a catastrophic global war had a few knock-on effects in cinema for a bit.
