So Liverpool centre-back Jamie Carragher is pissed off because his team lose at fierce Lancashire rivals Manchester United after dominating the game. So he’s pissed off that home player Gary Neville “crosses the line” with his celebrations at Old Trafford. So he understands that his England defensive colleague was abused by Liverpool fans. So he says that’s no excuse for the right back’s actions.
Jamie, a word in your ear, young man. You’re a good player, and an honest sort of fellow. Such whingeing is beneath you. You want to do somehting about opoosing team’s celebrations of winning goals. Tell Raf the Gaffer to go out and buy a decent forward. Like Michael Owen.
But if you still want to trhow the toys out the cot, pick at least pick a more worthy target for your temper tantrum. Gibril Cisse. If he’d spent less time rolling around on the turf trying to con the ref into giving him free kicks, he’d had been on his feet to sidefoot home from 6 yards. Yes, sidefoot home form six yards, Jamie. Even you could do that.
Liverpool fan checking in - to agree (well mostly).
I think it’s all been blown out of proportion - and if we’d won in the last minute I’d have been as overjoyed as I was disappointed. I think Jamie was just finding an outlet for some of that disappointment that comes with being on top of the game and blowing it at the end.
Not Michael Owen though - never put in enough effort after the first year or two. We need an Henry, or a van Nistelrooy or actually anyone who knows where the net is and can hit a decent shot with some consistency. But the transfer window is closing with no sign of Rafa actually getting the players he needs. On the other hand, if he hadn’t bought in the duds Morientes and Crouch (yes, Crouch can be good but most of the time he is awful) then perhaps he’d be able to buy more without losing face.
Add Rooney and Van Nistelrooy to Liverpool, and you have a team to challenge Chelsea. I’m a United fan, but detest the tribal hatred hat surrounds football. Rooney is someone who obviously needs a kick up the backside re swearing at refs, otherwise he’s going to walk at the World Cup, but I was a bit disappointed at Xabi Alonso’s attitude on Sunday. Very good player, but he needs to zip it too.
Not sure you were watching the same match I was. Liverpool certainly didn’t dominate the game. They deserved a draw for sure but they weren’t that dominant. I think Carragher’s comment was just a case of a player being ticked off at the result. No real harm there unless the police really do file an action.
United need several new midfielders. Given Fergies recent forays into the midfield market I wouldn’t hold out too much hope of them getting a true quality midfielder.
As usual, the winning goal went in during the final minute. Man U are the absolute champeens at doing that. Just a thought - if football matches were only, say, 85 minutes long and you discounted all the goals Man U have scored in the final 5 minutes (plus those in injury time) over the last 10 years, to what extent would that have effected their results? I reckon they’d be in the Unibond Northern Premier League by now. . . .
