The English Premiership -- Game on!

Thats right, its that time of year again. Reaching across the pond to us even in the States.

Arsenal 4, Middlesbrough 0

Go gunners go!

The result had Big Fat Ron (Atkinson) complaining about shocking decisions, mind. Seems Ugo Ehiogu didn’t deserve to go for 'Boro, who were matching Arsenal’s play at that point.

Not a day to be a Leicester fan, mind.

yeah, I understand the red card came awfully late for a phantom trip in the box…

Its hard to catch games here in the states – Not too many are televised here in New Mexico atleast. I’m usually stuck reading the results on the web.

The referee for this game is card-happy. He topped the statistics for red & yellow last season and he’s going for the double.

Nice to see Bergkamp on the scoresheet (twice).

Looking forward to Fulham v Man U tommorrow night (my time). Go you Super Whites.

Laugh to se Bolton top of the table.

Not for me it wasn’t.
The worst thing is that Peter Taylor seems almost resigned to it, and doesn’t seem to have any ambition other than playing ‘alright’. I am not looking forward to this season.

Have to say I developed such a loathing for Peter Taylor over the Neil Lennon transfer that I quite enjoyed seeing the Leicester result. Sorry, Tansu

Take Guppy back though and all will be forgiven

What in the Sam Hill were Celtic doing?? Hmmm?

And a 2-1 win for Liverpool against West Ham has me happy.

Feel free to loathe Peter Taylor as much as you like.

So man U pulls one off after having to equalize twice? Arrg I need to figure out a way to watch the games here…I would have liked to have seen that…

kinoons, there’s got to be at least one English or Irish pub in Albuquerque. Ring them up and ask if they have Setanta Sports or know any pub in the area that does.

Alternatively Fox Sports World carries some of the games, or did a couple years ago anyway. They might be PPV though.

And don’t feel bad, I live 5 minutes walk from several pubs that would have had the game on today and I was too hungover to go watch it

down by the Uni saggios usually carries a game, and I start school next week, so hopefully I can start catching games then.

Newcastle and chlsea come up to a draw at 1-1…
but 7 bookings? seven? four in a span of 15 minutes? wow, what was going on there?

Feckin’ Man U bastards! Oh well, at least Van Nistelrooy scored twice. And so did Bergkamp!

Speaking of English football: how are the red-'n-whites feeling since last wednesday? HUH? And how’s the Green Army looking forward to September 1? Eh??

you’ll have to excuse me on this, I am only a recent fan. I caught the last 1/2 (or is that 0.5) of the Premiership and only the quarters forward of the Champs league…

Who are the red 'n whites? The Green Army?

I’m sorry, that’s a bit of a side step from the premier league.

The Netherlands (also known as “The Mighty Heroes in Orange, to be Crowned World Champions in 2002”) played England (wearing white and red jerseys) in a friendly match last week. We beat them 2-0, which is good.
Also, we need to play the Irish National Team (hence: Green Army) on Septemer, 1. This match is NOT a friendly, as it is a world cup qualifying match, and (ahem) the Heroes in Orange haven’t qualified themselves for the 2002 World Cup yet. Sorry 'bout that.

Anyways, sorry for the hijack!

oh, okay so Netherlands = guys in orange that look like they should be parking cars…(maybe at the 2002 world cup)

What’s the Green Army got to do with English football, huh?

And to answer your question: very nervously …

We’ve got Arsenal next week so one Doper is going to be disappointed, and it won’t be me

Parking cars? Why, I oughta…

ruadh, I just KNEW someone was gonna comment on that. Yeah, it was a bit of a stretch, and I by no means meant to imply the Green Army is in any way, shape, or form… English. And I’m glad it’s an American correcting me - you’re rather rational about it. Had it been a Paddy, I would have been lying in an alley bleeding to death by now.

I thought last Wednesday was meaningful in a lets-put-the-coats-down-for-goalposts, park footie sense. With seven (or whatever) substitutes at half time, the manager picking the team on the basis of how much Premiership managers wanted their players to contribute and the absence of a certain defender due to ‘injury’ it lacked a degree of seriousness, IMHO. All seemed a little pointless to me.

But then I would say that, wouldn’t I. Feh. Puh.
