The English Premiership -- Game on!

Hands up who else got bored after half an hour or so and switched over to watch France instead.

I was reading over the weekend that you can still get France at 5 to 1 for the World Cup. If that’s true, I say: Fill yer boots …

United Fulham was pretty entertaining stuff. Saha looks pretty swift and useful. I’ve not seen any papers yet, but I’ll guess at ‘Van’s the Man’…or ‘Van Nist-Destroy’…or ‘Van-Tastic’. Am I getting close? A snip at £19M.

Be better when Veron gets a bit fitter…to me he looked knackered after the first half.

Yeah, but Veron can deliver a pass like no one else! Jaysus, he could shoot the top off a Coke bottle at 30 meters, he’s that precise. Amazing player.

Yea, but Veron did have an off game on Sunday. Looked really stupid when he gave the ball away and stood there watching instead of tracking back. I’m pretty sure Sir Alex will have some choice words for him.

I wonder which of Scholes or Veron will be dropped when Keane’s back from suspension… Might cause a bit of friction there.

Bolton have got themselves a temporary fan, atleast until they get back to div.1 or Wednesday get back to the premiership. Yea, I know which one of these will happen this season.

Sal.

I support Reading. Go Reading! [sub]kill me[/sub] Go Reading! [sub]kill me please[/sub]

But no ‘Match Of The Day’. Boo! :frowning:

Still, Liverpool won

Death does not beckon just yet, even though you beat us 2-0 on the opening day of the season.

Yes, a Blackpool supporter on SDMB. Please send messages of sympathy if you think it will help.

Blackpool eh ?

How is Mr Owen Oysten doing these days ?

He’ll have to learn not to make allegations of corruption against Tory Mp’s if he wants to stay out of jail next time, or make sure he is squeaky clean.

His was one of the dodgiest convictions I ever came across, and I’ve seen a good few.

::Continuing hi-jack to Nationwide League Division 2::

The chairman of Blackpool is now Karl Oyston. Whereas Owen never seemed to have the club’s interests at heart, Karl is putting a lot of effort into his job, witness ground improvements etc.

Owen was innocent of the crime for which he was jailed. But that’s OK because he was probably guilty of something else.

Innocent ? Did his appeal find in his favour then ?

I can’t go into details about how I came into contact with him but a conviction such as he had cannot be equated to any other thing he might or might not have done.

IMHO those who fitted him up should serve time, but then it all benefitted the Tories at the time who were trying to hide their institutionalised corruption.

Didn’t help them at the last election though.

::Still Nationwide Division 2::

As far as I am aware the appeal failed. My view of his innocence is based upon my reading of the case and talking to a few people.

Please imagine the use of irony when reading the last sentence of my previous post.

As for those who fit up others, they don’t normally get to serve any time. They retire from the police force on grounds of ill health.

So I did manage to see the Manchester U draw today. Gotta hate those own goals…

Now only if Arsenal could have gotten over Leeds…damn :frowning:

First three points to Fulham today with a 2-0 win against Sunderland.

I had a ball of a time watching the Man U game. Went around to a friends place and ate Pizza Hut in deference to Fulhams new sponsors along with a few cold Stellas. Oh the joy of playing in the Premiership, the first whole Fulham game I have seen in six years. I am now seriously considering getting Pay TV.

Aw, such a shame for the Gunners

You guys are talking about ping pong, right?

Right, so how do you Arse/Man U/Liverpool fans fancy your chances.

We (Celtic) have got Juventus, Porto and Rosenborg. Not the easiest draw, but I think we might manage to sneak into second place.

Now I just have to get hold of the airline and convince them to let me change my flight back from SF which arrives at 7:45 pm the night we play Juve away :frowning:

Blackpool vs Oldham - now that could be interesting …

Come on Latics!

Well, my boys have already assumed the position. Second-tier now and for the foreseeable…best hope is to squeeze into 6th. Two draws against fellow mid-table fodder, it’s enough to make me want to phone Eileen Drury.

I’d love to see Arsenal get further this time than last, but I dunno…Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Valencia are all excellent teams.
