Continuing the hijack, are the Orange still playing Total Football - man, that was exciting to watch in the last World Cup.
Mister Peter has said he’ll quit Leicester if we lose tomorrow.
We’re playing Arsenal. At Highbury. We have never, ever, ever won at Highbury (AFAIK), even when we had a good, determined defence. Our defence has fallen apart. The whole team has lost its collective mojo. Mister Peter is not currently capable of leading the team back to winning ways, because he doesn’t have the right attitude.
Heigh ho, here we go. Penny for the new manager?
kinoons, Valencia are not in the Champions League this year. They are in fact, only in the UEFA Cup. This is due mainly to a final day, final minute, 3-2 defeat in the Nou Camp at the hands of Barcelona (and a spectacular hat-trick from Rivaldo). A poor reward for a team who have finished as runners-up in the Champions League in both the last two seasons.
I will be interested to see if Valencia can scale to similar heights this season given the loss of their coach Hector Cuper and their influential midfielder Mendieta.
As for the Champions League, I agree that Real Madrid and Bayern Munich will be there or there abouts come May along with Juventus who have significantly strengthened their squad with the purchase of Thuram, Nedved and Buffon.
However, in my utterly biased opinion Liverpool will clearly end up triumphant with a 12-0 demolishion of Man Utd.
Which will be Man Utd’s second worst defeat of the season
ah, thanks for the catch. European soccer has way too many leagues to keep track of. Its very difficulty to keep them all straight.

Can I have some of what you’re smoking?
I wouldnt have expected this result…

Mr Peter still there then? The way I hear it, the players have no confidence in him (trying to force a 4-4-2 formation on them when Martin had them playing 3-5-2 etc.) to such an extent that Taggart for example walks out of a room when Taylor walks in. Oh dear.
But at least Leicester can blame managerial problems - what excuse for Middlesbrough? I saw my lads walk all over them yesterday, and they seemed to have given up already. Surely they should be showing the new manager what they’re made of? On this showing they’re made of nothing much.
BTW, I hope you’ll all allow me this one post to gloat about Everton being top of the league for the first time in years. I realise it may be my only time to say this all season, and there’s every chance of Bolton going top after Monday’s easy game, but what the hell ;).

No chance, I’m afraid - Valencia’s best chance of success in Europe came two years ago, when they really deserved to win the Champions League, and would have done if they’d been playing anyone but Real in the final. Without Cuper and Mendieta they’ll crumble away I’m afraid - all their body language said as much last season.

With the need to get revenge over Man U and Real, Bayern put so much into winning it last time I don’t believe they will this year. You’re right about Juventus’s new strength, but big name signings haven’t done it for Lazio or Inter in Europe so who knows… I’d say Real Madrid have the best chance again this year.
My own choice would be Celtic.

Ha ha. You seriously think you have that much luck left over from last year? United losing 12 nil to just about anyone is a nice image of course, but not to you guys, oh no.
I wonder if the lack of Jaap Stam and the reorganisation of the back four will affect Man U, I hope so but I don’t hold out much hope.
His pace against the likes of Owen has always been suspect but most teams would want in their side.
I love the irony of Alex Ferguson complaining that there wasn’t enough injury time played in the match.
Fuck off Alex. It suited you when games went on forever in Old Trafford, but when things are reversed all you can do is bitch and moan. I’ll be the first to celebrate when you quit football for good, and I’ll piss on the inevitable “We love you Fergie” tribute pull-out magazine in the Sun.
From Hell’s Heart I stab at thee.
I think this is why Man Utd are a target for so much hate. It’s not jealousy at all; it’s down to the visibility of fair-weather fans and, most of all, Ferguson’s bitter hypocrisy. United concede a last minute equaliser? Must be biased referees allowing too much time. No time to score a last minute equaliser? Must be biased referees. Again.
For all of his managerial skills, Ferguson is a nasty piece of work.
Liverpool 3-2 Bayern Munich in the UEFA Super Cup - WooHoo! Just don’t mention Bolton (bloody Westerweld :()

You’re probably right but it was a good result against Real at the weekend (certainly not the best of starts for Zidane).
Clearly, Chelsea will mash all in their path on the way to a historic quadruple this season.
Except Newcastle at home, obviously.
Ahem.
Nice touch of the Blues fans singing “You don’t know what you’re doing” at Ranieri at the Saints game, anyway. Even if he did get the last laugh when Stanic scored.

Bugger me! Bolton is still top of the table with seven points from three games. And poor old Man U down in fifth.
I would love to be a Bolton Fan right now.
I talked to a few people who went to the Man U game against Fulham. They comented on how many of the Man U fans were on their way back to London on the same trains.

Actually the Trotters have won their first three games (against Leicester City 0-5, Middlesbrough 1-0 and as much as it pains me to say it, Liverpool 2-1 :() and as such have nine points!

The Netherlands (also known as “The Mighty Heroes in Orange, to be Crowned World Champions in 2002”) … need to play the Irish National Team (hence: Green Army) on Septemer, 1. This match is NOT a friendly, as it is a world cup qualifying match, and (ahem) the Heroes in Orange haven’t qualified themselves for the 2002 World Cup yet. Sorry 'bout that.
Since ruadh’s still probably heading back from the pub, can I be the first to congratulate Ireland on a magnificent result today? It’s not often I don’t spit after saying Jason McAteer’s name but today can be an exception :). Anyway, I wouldn’t want to waste a drop of the Jameson’s I’ll be drinking in celebration this evening.
Fingers crossed for Andorra to beat Portugal Coldie?
BTW, blokeychap’s started a thread about Ireland v Holland.
