Steak Night - What is your cut of choice?

What is your personal favorite Steak cut?

I voted ribeye, but my real steak of choice is the chuckeye/spencer steak.

Looks and tastes like a really ugly ribeye, at half the price.

The porterhouse is massive… but the ribeye is tender. Ribeye by a hair.

Ribeye most of the time. I’ll occasionally do a filet if they have a large cut.

Prime Rib. End cut.

Mmm…ribeye…drool

I usually go for a rib steak (bone in), but rib eye is probably close enough (or even just a difference in terminology).

I’m the first filet lover? Huh.

I’m with you. I love steak, but I eat it so infrequently that I don’t see any problem with going for the best.

Filet Mignon is the only steak that touches these lips.

Skirt steak. Great texture and excellent flavor.

Husband & I get a porterhouse and split it, that way, we get a bit of the filet and a bit of the NY strip.

Filet Mignon. Skirt steak is a close second.

I know chefs tend to sneer at filet, because it doesn’t have the marbling or texture that some of the other cuts do, but that’s exactly why I like it. I hate eating hunks of fat - yes, if that’s where all the “flavor” is - and when I get other cuts, there’s always a pile of scraps for the dog.

That said, I don’t eat steak very often.

Nine times out of ten it’s a prime select ribeye. However, I will do filets and cover them pretty good first w/ sea salt and pepper.

Before the game I cooked 3 filets on the grill, reg, smaller and smaller still, lots of S&P. The family was gone, it was just me, the grill, a Chimay and the yard so when each would finish I’d stab it with the grill fork, walk around the backyard looking at plants and eat it right off the big fork. No plates, napkins, knives, nuthin’. It was awesome.

Ribeye is the correct answer. The rest of you are wasting your money on inferior beef.

Ribeye, but strip and porterhouse are close behind.

“Best,” of course, being subjective. Filet is the tenderest, there’s no question about that. But I doubt most steak lovers would consider it subjectively the “best.” It really depends on what you’re going for when you order a steak.

The corner market gets their ribeye from Costco, and it’s always been very good. It’s the only cut of steak they sell, and being 2/3 mile away they’re convenient. And their prices are not outrageous.

Skirt steak. Second choice is strip.
