My downstairs shower is icky and must be replaced. After measuring it, I went to various online places as well as Home Depot (actual store, not online), and I think I am leaning toward a steam shower. The one I like is made by Jacuzzi and there is a tub, kind of shallow but with jets, two shower heads, and steam.
This sounds really good to me. My own little steam bath, and room for two people! (Only for the steam, unfortunately–not for the Jacuzzi.)
So, does anybody have experience with these things? Note that I am definitely not ordering the thing online and when they say “professional installation recommended,” I am right there. According to my measurements it would fit, but hey, if they have to knock out a wall, they have to knock out a wall.
What might I be overlooking?
If it’s a load bearing wall, for one.
Also, would you really be using it for two people? My parents have a large jacuzzi tub “for two”, but it wouldn’t exactly be comfy.
Do you currently take baths? If not, don’t bother getting a jacuzzi tub. Nobody uses it if they already don’t take baths.
Can you include a link for what you’re considering?
Something like this (WARNING when you go here there is often some kind of pop-up instant message)
We all take showers mostly, but baths occasionally, more often in the winter than in the summer.
A few things I’d check out:
Power - Can you even get the required power run to that location? If it was 110, then I’d say it would almost be a non-issue, but the one you linked to needs a 220V line…which would be a hell of a lot harder to run across the house.
Water pressure - When we re-did our shower I looked into things like this, and for a lot of the self contained systems water pressure is an issue so make sure the pressure in your house can give you the experience you’re looking to get out of this.
Cleaning - I’m not sure exactlly how these systems work, but I can’t imagine that putting a lot of moist, hot air into your bathroom won’t have potential issues with mold/mildew. So make sure the system has some sort of cleaning mechanism built in, and I’d suggest maybe upgrading the vent in your bathroom to move a greater volume of air outside after you’re done.
Best of luck, and enjoy the new shower!
