Dear Esther is not really a game. You just walk around and hear kinda creepy stories.
I bought it - looked interesting to me, and your recommendation pushed me over the edge. I’m loving it so far - VERY fun retro dungeon-crawl. Thanks!

Limbo is pretty cool and worth the $2.50.
Duke Nukem Forever should really be a $5 credit.
This is still on sale for $15 at Amazon (they extended the sale). But I did pick up the Kill Hitler DLC now for 50% off on the Steam flash sale.
golfclap
Batman: Arkham City for $10 is a pretty sweet pickup.
Other than that I’ve only bought ARMA 2 so I can get Day Z up & running

Anyone have an opinion on Limbo or Dear Esther? I’ve been resisting buying anything, but these two are cheap and look sort of intriguing.

Limbo is a brilliant puzzle/sidescroller thing, beautiful graphics and very mood-heavy.
Dear Esther is a brilliant interactive story, gripping and intriguing, but not really a game, as such.
I highly recommend both.
Saints Row the Third is going to be a One Day sale on Amazon on the 19th. Priced at $9.99
So if you were on the fence before, maybe another $2.50 off the Steam price will entice you.
Thanks for the info, folks–I went ahead and grabbed both games. Creepy stories and puzzles appeal to me.
I picked up the Grand Theft Auto complete pack while it was on sale. $12 for 7 games is a steal.
Just Cause 2 is up on the flash deal, $3.75. Everyone should have it - requires Vista/7 and DX10, which everyone should also have.
The DLC is only 40% off - I wonder if it’ll eventually be a daily sale and the DLC will be 75% off too. The weapons are okay, but the vehicles are really fun. I especially like the hovercraft.
If you missed Witcher 2 on the Steam sale, The Witcher 1 & 2 are bundled for $17 on GOG.com
GOG is run by the publisher of The Witcher. Copies are not Steam activated but are DRM free.
I am currently enjoying the hell out of Tropico 4. If you played 3 and generally liked it, then I wouldn’t recommend 4 - there aren’t a lot of improvements or changes, at least not until you get to the DLC (for which you need Tropico 4 in any old case). But if you’re new to the series, or if you really, really liked Tropico 3, go for it.
I got Limbo but haven’t played it yet. Its been on my list of things to buy for a while but Steam’s deal is too terrific to pass up.
I don’t know why anyone would buy GTA IV & EFLC for £6.24 when you can get the complete collection, which includes both, for £4.99.
They did this for Borderlands once too. The GOTY edition, with all the DLC, was cheaper than the regular edition. Even now they’re the same price!
Late, but today’s deals:
Thief franchise 75%. All 3 $6.74 or $2.50 each
Super Meatboy $3.75
Age of Empires Online Summer Bundle $2.50
Carpe Fulgar Collection (Japanese for “seize the gay”), Recettear: An Item Shop’s Tale, Fortune Summoners, Chantelise - A Tale of Two Sisters) $12.50.
Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion $30
Stalker franchise 75% off. Bundle $11.20.
LA Noire $5
Total War franchise 75% off, or mega pack for $12.50
Bundle: Avadon: The Black Fortress, Dungeons of Dredmor, Q.U.B.E., Vessel, Zombie Driver $10
Flash Sales:
Risen 2 $33.50
Game of Thrones The Roleplaying Game $25
Terrarria $2.50
Dead Space 2 $5
Community Choice:
Sim City 4 $5
The total war mega pack is a ridiculous amount of gaming for $12.50 if you don’t have half the games. The Stalker games are interesting although I don’t know which of them to try first. Super Meatboy you’d already have if you’re a fan of those sorts of games.
I recommend the Carpe Fulgar collection with a caveat. The games are really fucking hard. If you are in any way casual, do not attempt. They are unforgiving and hate you. That said, if you only want to get one, get Recettear, it’s far and away the best one. I like Fortune Summoners, but the controls are so terrible and the backtracking such terrible game design (both intentionally!) that I can’t recommend it to anyone.
Dragon Age Origins is on a flash deal, I highly recommend it - the Ultimate Edition with the DLCs and expansion is an absolute steal for RPG fans if you’ve not tried it yet.
