The Bloodsucker pack is sometimes useful in a tight fight, I’ve found.
Admittedly, I haven’t got to them yet. But Old World Blues and Lonesome Road are generally liked. Dead Money is “okay.” Not too sure about Honest Hearts, I think generally 3rd or 4th.
And the Gun Runner’s and Courier’s Stash are of course mostly new weapons and gear, with some challenges thrown in in the case of Gun Runners. Courier’s probably isn’t terribly useful if you have a well-levelled character. The Classic pack’s canteen seems cool (if Hardcore), maybe too powerful. I bought New Vegas with the Caravan Pack, it was decent.
Old World Blues is my favorite DLC ever. I may even like it more than the rest of the game combined. Lonesome Road is also good (and includes one of my favorite Wild Wasteland touches). The other DLCs are not in that league, but I even liked Dead Money–though I think my weapon preferences played strongly to my advantage there, and mitigated one of the things that annoyed a lot of people.

What can anyone tell me about Mirror’s Edge?
In Mirror’s Edge you play a free-running street courier who travels about the city on rooftops, ledges, and other non-conventional avenues. There’s an overall story line wherein (IIRC) you solve a mystery having to do with the street couriers in order to save your sister, a cop.
The gameplay is largely puzzle-solving, not entirely unlike Portal or parts of Assassin’s Creed, where your main goal is figure out how to get from point A to point B via climbing, jumping, and various free-running moves. There is some fighting involved, but even that is really just more puzzle-solving, where your goal is more about getting past human obstacles rather than racking up killshots.
I strongly recommend the game mainly because it’s got such an unusual and interesting style. The “feel” of the game alone was well worth the time and money spent, for me. The gameplay and story are both fine, but the hook for me is definitely the style.
It’s a darn good game, too. It’s a lot like Portal, but without the incisive black wit, trading it in instead for a vaguely ominous but ultimately non-threatening goofiness. The puzzles are a great deal of fun, more so than Portal puzzles IMO; nearly every puzzle in QC has me going, “Wait, I have to do what?! You’re kidding me!” …and then two minutes later I’m doing the impossible. QC provides me with far more satisfaction at solving a room than Portal or Portal 2 ever did. It’s just not quite as witty, is all.
That’s very tempting. I just finished Portal 2 on Sunday and I forgot how much I enjoy that sort of game.
(I’m not quick and games like Skyrim are fun but ultimately frustrating for me because I have such a difficult time with aiming and responding. Portal and Portal 2 were nice because I mostly could go at my own pace.)
(I have, however, already spent about 30 dollars on the steam sale which is about 30 dollars over what I originally budgeted for them and one of the purchases was the Cyan bundle with a whole lot of Myst games, which, if my experiences with the first couple are indicative, will take me til 2014 to finish.)
Fallout 3/NV doesn’t require that, if you have the AP for VATS. Also Portal was easy? The really twitchy one that requires making multiple portals while falling?
I can aim. I can’t aim while something is shooting at me. You’ll have to refresh my memory of which puzzle in portal required multiple portals while falling. I remember only ever having to make one portal while falling in any given puzzle. My thought would be, if you’re trying to relocate both portals mid-air, you’re trying to solve the puzzle in a more difficult way than intended.
I’m so glad that Steam lets me know that I already own something. I almost bought two games that I already own during this sale. :smack:
That’s pretty much it for Portal. I always thought of the correct method of solving each puzzle as ‘snapping into place’; while they sort of require timing, if you’re doing it right then it all works well together. If you’re having a ton of difficulty then you’re probably doing it wrong.
QC does require some precise aiming skills and there are a few sections where things get frantic as you’re dodging between lethal traps and flipping dimensions, but none of it’s too difficult and, like Portal, there are no genuine enemies other than the environment.
I think it was Chamber 15 or 16, you’re required to put a portal in a hole and on a pillar, jump into the hole, then while falling, place a portal on the next pillar, fall back through the portal, put a portal on the next pillar etc. I think in total you have to do it about 3-4 times.
I know I’m late on answering this one, but I’d say all of them are worth it for $2.50. Some are weaker than others, but I enjoyed them all (and even my least favorite, Honest Hearts, gives you some pretty good gear).
If you’re only going to get one, get Old World Blues. It’s practically a game in and of itself, and it’s freaking amazing. If you get two, get Old World Blues and Dead Money. But really just get all four, they’re worth it.
I do get frustrated sometimes with QC where I have to time a jump and land exactly on a tiny box. But it’s worth it to me, to hear what Q from ST:TNG has to say next (John de Lancie doing the voice of the mad scientist).
It’s a great feeling when the sarcastic old man cheers you on, isn’t it?
It was 15. It required some precision in placement of launch point, orientation, placement of hole (while jumping), and timing.
It also required a nearby brick wall, or at least that’s what I required, for head beating when the game got to be too much.
The damn server crashed on my right when Crysis 2 was 75% off! Now it’s back online, replaced by bloody Duke Nukem. What bullshit is this. Not just me, down for everyone reported Steam down as well. It also wants me to sign in again. Bah!
Well, Civ V has officially taken over my life. I stayed up an extra two hours last night just playing the tutorial. I have no idea when I’m going play all these other game I’ve bought.
Anyone have an opinion on Limbo or Dear Esther? I’ve been resisting buying anything, but these two are cheap and look sort of intriguing.
