Steampunk Tile Project

A while ago I posted pictures of a steampunk Mechanical Mole modelI had completed, and mentioned the Steampunk Tile Project, a group build in which nine modelers were each given a crudely landscaped tile and some guidelines, and told to create a steampunk war machine. Some of you asked that I post pics of the whole shebang when it was finished, and so here we go!

This afternoon the Project finally came together! Nine modelers brought their tiles to Galaxy Hobby’s Sci-Fan model contest, we set them in place on the contest table, and awesomeness was created

View from the northeast

View from the northwest

View from the southeast

…and from the southwest

Tile #1 SteveGee’s land cruiser Provence. All scratchbuilt; biggest gun on the map!

Tile #2 ScrutusLe Colosse and* Le Petite Toot-toot* move to the attack. * Colosse* has had a bit of trouble with a barbed-wire fence!

Tile #3** Rocketeer**'s Mechanical Mole disgorges troops, filled with elan and thirsting to drive the Prussian back to hell! It’s also taking a shot at the dirigible on tile #8.

Tile #4 Morgan Le Fey’s tile shows an artillery duel between two Prussian rocket-firing tractors and a French 75 pulled by a steam monotrack!

Tile #5 Mike the Great’s giant robot is being lifted into position by two mini-dirigibles; things look bad for the French!

Tile #6 And braincells37’s French Chenille Maginot’s crew are taking a wine break!

Tile #7 Mad Paul’s railgun is aiming clear across the map at the Mole. Some nearby cows are unconcerned. :dubious:

Tile #8 Qtan’s magnificent dirigible dominates the battlefield now, but doubtless the Mole’s gun will bring it crashing to the earth in flames soon; hopefully before the dirigible’s Gatlings destroy the Chenille Maginot.

Tile #9 …and Bob2-D2’s submarine sits placidly at its wharf. Awaken, sons of Prussia! Destroy the effete French poltroons!

Looks like fun.

Anybody use a 3-D printer? I would think it would be a godsend for these projects.

Fun idea! I like that robot.

enipla: As far as I know, nobody used 3D printing. The only high-tech processes used were some home photoetching for dirigible parts, vacuum forming for the land cruiser hull, and resin casting for some of the giant robot parts.

GuanoLad: Yes, it was a fun project. It was interesting to compare everybody’s style of working. A couple guys finished up way ahead of time; a few others put everything off until the Absolute Last Minute, and were up til 3:00 AM the day of the show

The giant robot is very very nice. Mike the Great is not experienced at building models, so he had some structural problems and do-overs, but he’s a professional artist, so his visuals are imaginative and lovely.

Your own model stands out, looks like you put the most effort in. Though the airship upstages things a bit.
