Apparently, as reported by a NYC fireman who called howard stern friday morning, steve buscemi is now a fireman again. He’s supposedly donned his firefighter uniform and is currently working on the rescue effort.
They should give the guy an oscar
Hopefully a few hollywood fluff-heads will take notice and apply whatever skills they have as well.
That has got to be the sine qua non of cool. What a down-to-earth guy. I had no idea he’d been a firefighter in the first place.
First thing that flashed through my mind after reading this was the stories of Cruise “rescuing” people from burning cars, etc. (I use the quotes because I was always half-convinced these were setups to improve his public persona.) Doesn’t seem likely he’ll be joining in these proceedings, though. Least he could do is donate a few million for the real heroes in his home state.
Interesting thought on the Tom Cruise Fakes Rescue angle. I’ve always felt that too, like the Russel Crowe Kidnap Plot just before the Oscars.
However, along the same lines, Hollywood in general seems to be really really quiet after all of the events lately. I haven’t heard of any massive donations from the megastars at all. Then again, E! hasn’t been covering the carnage, so I could be out of the fluff news loop.
There’s been nothing from the gossip mills. pagesix.com interview a few, like Liz Smith, who basically said, “f*** it, I wanna do something more useful than this s***.”
I’m anxiously awaiting next week’s Enquirer–I can’t wait to see what they print–will they go for a 100% glurge issue, or carry on with the manufactured Hollywood gossip? I can’t see them putting Steve Buscemi on the cover…
I feel like such a jerk for asking for this, but do you have a cite? I want to believe it’s true because Buscemi’s such a cool guy, but I can’t believe anything reported on the Howard Stern Show just because it’s Howard Stern. I quick google search did not come up with anything recent.
Last night on Politically Incorrect, Bill Mahr said he had so wanted to do something more than donate blood and he had felt guilty about not working all week and still getting paid that he signed over his paycheck to the survivor’s fund.
He also is keeping a chair empty all week in honor of Barbara Olson, who was flying out to be on his show when her plane was hijacked.
Last Thursday, in the midst of a NY Daily News story about the tragedy, the heroic efforts of firemen, and the horror of the scene at ground zero, I read “Actress Sarah Jessica Parker and Actor Matthew Broderick came by the scene with their border collie Sally.”
I practically threw up. What kind of celebrity goes to a scene of unspeakable tragedy with their dog to be “seen” by a reporter?
Mr. Buscemi, I understand, is a pretty good guy all around. I have a neighbor whose kid goes to school with Buscemi’s kid and she says Buscemi is a regular, down to earth kind of guy. He’s listed in the Brooklyn white pages, for god’s sake.
