Okay, so the famous Steve McQueen obviously already had a gender. My Steve McQueen, however, had until recently been genderless.
Some of you may remember from this thread that when I got pregnant my husband and I nicknamed our fetus Steve McQueen in reference to the movie The Great Escape (because the fetus is in there planning a great escape, y’know.) Well, as of my sonogram this morning Steve McQueen is no longer a genderless fetus because we found out that we are having a little girl! While we are both pretty thrilled my husband is absolutely over the moon at the thought of having a daughter and so far I’m finding that the best part of being pregnant is watching how excited my husband gets about the baby stuff. As much as being pregnant isn’t much fun at all, especially in this horrible heat wave, I’m so tickled at his reactions and how happy he is about being a daddy that I just can’t help being swept up in the excitement of it all. Not being able to differentiate my ankle from the rest of my leg doesn’t seem so bad when he is singing happy children’s songs into my belly.
That reminds me of a time I was in McDonald’s with my then-5-year-old. I got a phone call from someone from work. When I was done, he asked me who it was; I told him. He then said loudly, seemingly out of the blue, and to the amusement of several people seated nearby, “why didn’t you name me Steve?”
Congratulations. By the way, a word of warning: Over in Great Debates, Cyclone has alerted us to the dangers of fetuses illegally crossing international borders (to become ‘anchor babies’). In view that young Miss McQueen is plotting The Great Escape, I figured you should be warned!
We actually picked out names when I first found out I was pregnant! Her name is Bridget.
Despite the sonogram tech’s promise that at this point she only weighs 1 lb 2 oz I believe she weighs about 50 lbs or, at the very least, has a couple of 25 lb hand weights in there for her daily jazzercise routines.
They guy I was talking to was named Steve. Nobody sitting nearby heard that part — they just heard a cute little boy demanding to know why he wasn’t named Steve.
