Steven Seagal: Lawman (in real life AND on TV)

Aurgh. That was bad. The Crime-O-Vision especially, because that was frequently three or four drinks in 20 seconds. Still, it was a pretty decent drinking game, without too many long breaks. I give it a B.

I find this show extremely entertaining although I’m amazed that he hasn’t taken down a suspect yet. I’m guessing that he just doesn’t want to do the physical excersize necessary to actually catch a suspect.

He really is good with those moves though, there really was no embellishment in his movies.

Just dropped in to let you guys know that Steven is a life long practicioner of the martial arts.

Seriously, I thought the show sucked. I don’t hold his movies against him though- hell I’d do that crap for the money. As far as Akido goes it’s useless for selfdefense IMHO. I took it for two years in Taos (coincidentally from a student of Stevens). I really don’t expect to see him try using it on a violent suspect. His shooting skills impressed me.

I love you.

I caught an episode during the marathon yesterday. Goodness gracious, has he let himself go.
And sure enough, it wasn’t five minutes before he uttered the phrase “lifelong practitioner of the martial arts.” The guy has his head so far up his * own* ass that he can see daylight.
But, I’ll concede he can probably still easily kick my ass.

So what’s wrong with Aikido? Why is it useless for defense? I have little knowledge on the matter.

Nothing is wrong with Aikido as an art form. It’s quite graceful. But as a defensive form it has several drawbacks the first among them being the strongly structured attacking opponant in practice. All martial arts have kata and such but in my experience Aikido is more limited in this way. The Aikido practicioners I’ve witnessed had trouble with free sparring. My instuctor in NM was Craig Dunn.

Great Fark link to a Spike TV article:

“The fact that Seagal is by all appearances a slow, overweight, narcissistic fraud incapable of hurting anything other than his own reputation simply means he’s expertly manipulated you into putting down your guard.”
