The dumbest person at this rally is still smarter than the smartest Beck fan and smarter than Beck.
OK, who was it?
NPR just reported that someone had a sign that said:
I LIKE PIE
Unclviny
Apparently Colbert tweeted a crowd estimate of 6 billion.
Hee, I went up to a person with that sign and asked if they were a “Doper” and they looked at me like I was nuts.:smack: I clarified and asked if they read “The Straight Dope” and they said no.
My favorite sign was:
“Atheists for Religious Tolerance”
CBS estimated the crowd to be 215,000. So sad I wasn’t one of them. Could not convince hubby that getting up at 5 am and driving to DC was a good idea. He was all for it before he found out about the 5 am part.
My Favorite:
“I masturbate to Christine O’Donnell”
I’m glad I went. The crowd was awesome, and full of very reasonable people.
Sounds about right. Jamie and Adam were saying 150,000, but since that was during the rally I figure it was a hasty estimate.
And
Almost 3x Beck’s turnout. Wonder what Stewart will do with that on Monday.
Which reminds me: what was the deal with the Mythbusters showing up on stage at the end of the event? Did thye have a role earlier in the proceedings? I only got to my TV around the end of the first hour, so maybe I missed something.
I’m glad I went, and had a great time people watching reading signs and meeting dopers, but I pretty much missed the whole rally. I’m hoping the whole thing will be up on the web somewhere, on Comedy Central’s site or You tube, or something.
Near the beginning, Jamie and Adam did a bit on timing the wave.
We heard most of the rally but didn’t get to see a thing, too short.
You can see the whole rally on C-Span.
Sadly I don’t have cable, the whole thing doesn’t appear to be up yet, but I hope it will be.
Ah. OK, thanks.
Also stumbled on a Tweet from Adam that mentioned he ‘attended’ (I guess as audience member) a taping of the Colbert Report this week.
Seriously? That didn’t start here. The Dope picked it up from an animation that was all over the web for weeks a few years ago.
It’s also used frequently by DKos diarists. Probably a well represented category at the rally.
Yes and in numbers orders of magnitude greater than people who post here.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t make the dopefest, or after-fest, due to some scheduling confusion and the need to fill my stomach with food. But I did hit the rally, and it was awesome.
I’ll be back in DC soon, probably within the first few months of the new year, and I hope to meet up with some dopers then.
i was confounded by the amount of people who brought their kids, especially wee little babies to this thing. why? to what end? indoctrination into irreverence? it just seemed odd.
Maybe they wanted to go and couldn’t afford or find child care. To the kids it’s a nice day outside with some music even. To the adults they get to go and have fun too.
