Hope to attend. My sign idea:

or perhaps:
Don’t Be a π-Hole.
Be RATIONAL.

Looks transcendental to me.
How about a sign for the Colbert rally:
Hey Mice-brain MORANS!
Keep your NAZI COMMUNIST hands off my Medicare!
If this really does happen, I can actually go to it ! Free places to stay with family…
One theme I’m working with is:
Massengill Society of Liberal Douches: Freedom Just feels Fresher!"
Could use some help here, because I don’t really get what calling someone a douche means. Is it that the act of giving yer Hoody Hoo an irrigation is low and nasty, or short for the apparatus of a douchebag, which catches all the vajayjay run-off, so , what, subservient? I still don’t get it. Isn’t a clean Hidy-Hoo a good thing?
Help me out folks.
I’ll be there selling flags. Somewhere near the American Art museum. Stop by and say hey.
I need to find an appropriate tasteless T-shirt to wear.
I usually get off at Metro Center and walk down F street, but most folks transfer to the blue line and get off at the Smithsonian.
I hope it’s not too cold or rainy.
This sounds like a great idea & I wish Jon luck. I am of course too much a screaming Bolshevik for this event, but I wish it well.
Why am I so poor? cries forever
The Law of Toos would make a good sign:
TOO OF ANYTHING
IS BAD
I’d be there in a flash if I wasn’t an ocean away.
I really hope it’s huge though.
This is great and I hope it takes off. I’ll be disappointed if there isn’t at least one “DOWN WITH THIS SORT OF THING” banner.

I would so go there with that WW2 era “KEEP CALM and CARRY ON” Brit placard. With maybe, “LOSE YOUR SHIT and FREAK RIGHT OUT” on the flip side, for when Colbert takes the stage ;).
The only problem is the placard would probably not survive the swim across the Atlantic…
For Colbert a sign that covers it all
Down with Libaril Science Govermint and Ejacashun and Masterbashun!
America: Surrounded by Foreigners Who Want our Jobs, Our Freedom and Our Women! Not necessaily in that order!
For Jon:
Let’s Spend Wisely and Moderately In the Marketplace of Ideas!
Hmmm, I was going to be in Philly on the 1st as it is, so the temptation to head east a couple days early is overwhelming right now.
Wait a sec. This event is on October 30th. The mid-terms are three days later, November 2. Is this rally going to make it difficult for those who travel to attend it to get home to their districts and vote? Would that have the effect of suppressing progressive turnout at the polls?
I also have some concerns that these events will be covered as mouth-frothing crazy librul dirty hippies by unfriendly media, much like the 2003 anti-war protests were, which could turn off moderates. Granted, these events have both Stewart and Colbert to spin the whole thing properly, so probably it’ll be okay. But it’s still a concern, as we’ve seen that anything, even completely made up things, that make progressive look bad is given intense scrutiny and negative spin via Drudge/Rush -> Fox -> and finally all other news outlets.
That said, people shouldn’t be afraid to attend these events and have fun and be heard, and to hell with the dishonest media (which after all is the major theme of both Stewart and Colbert’s shows). But I think being concerned with the optics of how this all plays is worth considering.
I’m not so sure about that. It’s also Halloween weekend, so people with kids will be eager to get home. I suspect most people are going to fly in on Friday/early Saturday, show up for the rally, stay overnight Saturday, and fly back early Sunday.
Also, Stewart mentioned that the rally is on the tail end of the week in which TDS (and I presume Colbert) will be performed in DC, so I expect there’ll be a lot of people there the week before to go see their show. I figure the vast majority of people will be home before the 2nd.
Last ditch option: if they intend to vote but don’t expect to be home on the 2nd, there should be options for absentee voting, shouldn’t there?
The way I see it, this rally will be primarily politically savvy people. They’re not going to leave themselves out in the cold when there’s options available.
Only for those for whom it’s a 3 day trip to get there.
They’ll do that no matter what.
The optics of it is to disabuse the nutbags of the notion that everybody thinks like them. You have to remember that those people bathe in that stuff 24/7.
I live in Boston and I’ll be standing in line in a store and some douche will turn to me and toss out some line derived from the echo chamber and I’ll just stare at them. They’re always shocked not to get a “You got that right!” in return.
