Stick a fork in her: Clinton's done

I think it depends on how far you’d go. For heaven’s sake, she doesn’t even say what that means by that. Now, if she means that she’ll force banks to look at all the sub-prime mortgages they have outstanding, where foreclosure seems inevitable, and to sit down with those clients and offer them decent refinancing options, then I’m all for it. If she simply wants to force banks to choke on their losses, even though I might like for them to, I wouldn’t agree with that at all because it would be very dangerous for the economy.

One of the things I’ve heard Obama talk about, is looking at all the sub-prime loans that were forced on people who actually qualified for standard loans (like my husband and I, who had a credit score of 720 at the time, but the greedy mortgage brokers would only give us an interest-only 1st and an adjustable 2nd!! We were one of the lucky ones who were able to get refinancing because our house maintained its value, and we still got screwed by the 2nd mortgage broker!). For an excellent description of the nightmare it is to get out of one of these things, see this GQ post by SmartAleq.

It’s a token effort at most. I think her campaign might be strategically at sea right now: earlier in the process, they tried to showcase her as the inevitable winner, but Obama’s busted that up in the last few weeks. They had Bill Clinton go negative on him and act dismissive - or he did it on his own, whichever - and that backfired pretty badly. They co-opted the change message, but apparently, no sale there. She’d been counting on older voters and women to bail her out in Ohio, plus Latinos in Texas, but last night those voters said they liked Obama better. What else are they going to do?

Yesterday on his website, Former Austin Mayor and current State Senator Kirk Watson announced his endorsement of Senator Obama for President. [

Do you post anything but cheerleading anymore, Shayna?

So what if she does? Do you post anything but scorn and ridicule for things that you don’t agree with?

I can’t tell, are you making a joke or just being a jerk?

This is Great Debates, Airman. Posting the latest list of endorsements is not debating. Nor is that content anything I necessarily agree *or * disagree with - it would be simple padding either way.

Got something to add here other than post count?

Public perception isn’t exactly at an all time high for her right now either, huh? It’s written all over her face, reading her actions to me says she know’s the end is near. Cheerlead away Shayna - when Hill was doing great the peanut gallery was doing the same things…

It adds gravitas to her assertion that Hillary’s candidacy has reached fork stage. I see no problem with it.

Yep. Besides which, if a list of endorsements isn’t relevant to the thread, surely an insult aimed at the person listing the endorsements is even less relevant.

You mean like this, or this, or this, or this (shall I go on?)?

I know, you’re one of those guys who keep saying Obama is all bluster and no substance, too, aren’t you?

You’re so cute when you get all riled up.

And as others have said, there’s plenty to debate about whether said endorsements will hold any sway in the upcoming primaries, and they’re certainly relevant to the subject at hand. If you have a problem with it, feel free to take it where those types of issues are allowed on these boards, but I can’t promise I’ll play.

Thanks for the support, guys!

Please pretend for a moment that there is, and they do. How big would Barack need to win to neutralize or overcome the effect of Hillary’s superdelegates?

Is it a reasonable goal?

The way I was calculating it in my head went like this: if she wins the superdelegates by about 500 to 300, then he needs a margin of more than 200 pledged delegates. Given what’s left and his lead of about 120, I think that’s more than doable.

Interestingly, this was posted on the Obama blogs this evening: Here’s Barack answering a question about home foreclosures at a town hall in Waukesha, Wisconsin (youtube video)

Why is this your concern? Ignoring for the moment the fact that Shayna has posted substantive comments in this thread, there is no rule that every poster must post only substantive comments–otherwise, we’d have to start issuing Warnings to posters who submitted single-line, off-topic complaints about the behavior of other posters.

Back off.

This question comes much too close to using a rhetorical question as a device to hurl an insult.

If you need that question answered, ask it in the Pit.

Since Hillary is “done”, Barack should feel free to save his money and resources to fight McCain. Pay no more attention to Hillary now, thanks.

I don’t believe in jinxes, but I have to admit this thread makes me nervous.

From Drudge:

I have to say that to me, Hillary comes across as extremely insincere and sounding like an old-time politician. Obama at least SOUNDS sincere. I cannot listen to Hillary speak without rolling my eyes. When I hear Obama, I think, “Yeah, I could vote for this guy.” I’ve decided I would like to see Hillary defeated by Obama.

I am unhappy with the “change” platitude being thrown around by both, though. Heard this SO many times over the years. Will hear it again a few years from now.

In Obama’s case, it’s not so much a platitude as it is code for “All right, that’s just about enough of the Clintons.”
