It’s called “sticky” because it ‘sticks’ to the top of the forum page. Like a “sticky note” or a “sticky pad” or “widdwe sticky wickies” or some other cuddly office product.

Personally, I don’t like the name. I doubt that’ll matter though. Just call it pinned or something, sounds more…professional.
