Still alive???

Oscar Brand. 95.

At 85, not the oldest, but I had believed that I had heard he had died, in the 80’s or 90’s, not long after his recurring appearances on Night Court (“But I’m feeling much better now!”).

Nope, still alive.

John Astin, I assume.

OK then, ftg, I’ll go back to what the OP said about people I thought were already dead.

I saw a tribute magazine on the racks a few months ago featuring “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, the WWF superstar. I was pretty sure that he was all out of bubblegum several years ago, but he died earlier this year at the end of July. He was only 61 years old.

Similarly, I had thought Richard Dawson was long dead, too - survey says he’d survived until June of 2012, though.

Charles Manson recently turned 81. :o

OTOH, his partner from I’m Dickens, He’s Fenster, Marty Ingels died just last month. (Which means that Shirley Jones is now available. After a suitable waiting period, of course.)

That IMDb list is quite out of date. Just doing a partial check, I see that in addition to Al, they also have Jean Darling (Our Gang), Jack Carter (181 different roles listed) and Betsy Drake (Mrs. Cary Grant #3) who have passed. Added: Found a few more deceased on the list: Joan Leslie and Dickie Moore. Maybe that list is killing people.

While I am mildly surprised at Prof. Irwin Corey being alive. (You have to read about his life.), it’s people like Eva Marie Saint, Kaye Ballard, George Kennedy and Carol Channing that really surprise me. Mainly because I haven’t heard anything about them in some time.

Doris Day surprised me guess because you never hear about her.

I love to hear about the ones who are still working,:Betty White of course, Cloris Leachman and Angela Lansbury. And there’s always Norman Lloyd who I see on IMDB just appeared in Trainwreck (and just had his 101st birthday). How many people who were blacklisted in the McCarthy era are still alive and working?

Herman Wouk is still around at 100.

Oscar Niemeyer, the chief architect of Brasilia, made it to 105; he passed away three years ago.

John Astin is the sole surviving male to have portrayed a villain on “Batman”.

Jackie Mason’s still around. He’s 84, which actually is a bit younger than I expected him to be.

George Kennedy is just too damn cool to ever die.

Steven Hill, the actor who played Adam Schiff in “Law and Order”, but who I remember quite fondly from the early episodes of “Mission: Impossible” as the head of the IMF (he was eventually replaced by Peter Graves). IMDB lists him as being born in 1922.

And I found out about him quite by accident – I had this really talkative barber, an old guy, who bragged to me that he cuts Steven Hill’s hair (I had just told him that I was going to see the new Mission Impossible movie, which triggered that brag). I told him “Really, I didn’t know he was still alive”. He told me not only that he was still alive, but he’s currently living just a town over from me.

So not only is he still alive, he still has hair lol. Not that he had a lot of it back when he was acting…

Damn these glasses, son.

Yes, sir, I damn thee!

A lot of people still are! They started selling sliced bread in 1928.

So now when you hear something referred to as “the greatest thing since sliced bread,” you can ask, “is that really the greatest thing to come along since July 7, 1928?”

He’s also the sole surviving adult cast member of the Addams Family, outside of Lisa Loring, who was a child then.

I remember during Comedy Central’s roast of William Shatner, about 10 years ago, Betty White and Lisa Lampinelli were two of the celebs in attendance. Lampinelli said, of White, “Betty’s so old, the grand prize on her first game show was fire.”

There’s a pretty great AV Club interview with him here. Still pretty damn sharp, and it’s quite a read.

Keith Richards: I saw Keith Richards (on television) playing a concert in the early 80’s. He looked like he was on death’s door, maybe 3 months to live. Every time I’ve seen him since, he looks like he’s taken two steps closer (to death) and one step back. I’m constantly amazed to hear he’s still alive, every time I’ve heard over the past 30 years.
