Still recovering from Baycon.

Went to Baycon over the weekend, was a blast. No complaints, save that I didn’t see enough things that I wanted to spend money on. (Actually, I did. But the didn’t have the cloak in my size.)

The one other complaint is that they somehow managed ( --The first time this has ever happened at a con for me – ) to schedule interesting panels unbroken through every day. I spent every day sitting in on neat talks, and barely had time to reach the next discussion every time. I missed lunch on Sat Sun, and Mon, and dinner on Sun. Not good when trying to lose weight.

Still, the panels were worth it. Some of the more interesting panels:

First Contact Etiquette - Very interesting discussion about how one gets another races attention, and once gotten what might be some of the problems in commications. And that’s not tossing in the physics problems and such. The lag was relivant though(A coup right in the middle of our discussion, how improper. ) What if prime numbers are considered unlucky by the recipients? (Primes are often considered to be one of the better ways to get attention.) And similar problems.

ILM - A bit of Industrial Light and Magic’s history. Nice video.

Cassini - An enjoyable panel on the current status and whereabouts of the Cassini project.

Pathfinder - Another enjoyable discussion on the data gathered from the pathfinder mission.

Journey to Europa - Missed this one, drattit, saw the panel on Species Building instead. Still a few other panels let me know what this one was on. Was on the possibility of life on Europa since it appears the conditions are correct. And the problems of learning if they are, considering the 4km layer of ice covering the oceans below. Possible methods of reaching said waters is being explored in the Antartic with attempts to reach the liquid lakes buried under the ice there.

Alien Sex - No, not how to find gorgeous klingon chicks and how to seduce them. Was more a talk about some of the stranger aspects of Terran animal species mating habits and methods. Such interesting things as some species of bedbug, the female doesn’t have an opening, the male actually has to spear through the females body wall into the body cavity to mate. Consider what your alien race might be like if that is how they breed. Or…females of the common octopuss don’t exactly age, they just keep getting larger and larger as the live…But as soon as they get pregnant, they start to age rapidly, appearently dieing of old age a little while after the laid eggs hatch.

Those were just some of the panels I attended to watch, all were enjoyable.

Hmmm, looking over this I hope the longest panel discription doesn’t say to much about me.

Sounds like you had a great time, Narile. Did you wear your fake Klingon head?

as opposed to his real klingon head?

It is getting more & more expensive, with less & less fun, every year. The inflation on memberships is ridiculous. Not enuf bimbo hall costumes, either… “indy”

Demo, please…if I were to go as an alien, I wouldn’t go as some guy with a funny forehead. I’d go as a guy with a funny boneridge on the back of the head! Nah, I’d go as Kosh most likely.

Daniel, the price of guests and the con location go up every year. They don’t have much choice in the matter as to the price. As for fun, if you think there should be some changes, did you attend Hiss and Purr or volenteer?
