Virtue signaling as far as the eyes can see and ears can hear. The joke was definitely poorly planned and could have been better but yes it was an attempt at a joke that failed. Sure it was obviously and definitely ABC’s right to cancel, but don’t even try to think they are doing it because of some moral/ethical reasoning. It is because they are afraid of the virtuous, holier than thou leftist contingent being easily offended and losing money/sponsors and viewers, nothing more. They were afraid of the backlash from the masses of butthurt people with too much misplaced guilt.
People really need to fucking get over themselves and the overinflated sense of moral worthiness to society.

Nitpick: It wasn’t a joke. I agreed with him. He later apologized (sort of), saying he was speaking of the US defense policy in general and not troops on the ground.
Well, a lot of conservative bosses who didn’t give a shit in the past learned hard lessons that some of their clients actually did care if they or their people were racists.
I wouldn’t have put it the way he did in public, and not expect to get some serious pushback against it, but yeah, what he said was more or less correct.
OTOH, ABC letting him go because of the outrage that it sparked was also their decision, and while I didn’t like it, I had full respect for their right to make it.
