Goddamnit! How about some good news for once? Every time I go on CNN.COM or MSNBC.COM to update myself on the recent bombings in Afghanistan, all I FUCKING read are ridiculous statistics about civilian casualties.
“Taliban Mullah Abdul Zaeef says there were 21 civilian casualties and 10 injuries. These are unconfirmed reports.”
“The Taliban says a hospital and a pre-school were destroyed in the attack. The US denies this.”

Look. The Taliban is full of shit. They will say anything and do anything to make us look bad. They will go and bomb a hospital themselves and then blame it on us. They’ll hide tanks in a mosque and then get upset when we blow it up. They will poison the food and say we did it.
It’s about time the news agencys STOP reporting this goddamn Taliban propaganda. I don’t care about how many civilians the Taliban says we killed. It’s bullshit. I’m not denying that the US might have inadvertantly killed civilians. But you know what? I don’t wanna fucking hear it.

I agree with you 100%. Unless a report is confirmed, then it is pure propaganda and speculation as to what is being hit and destroyed. I’m not saying that I think that the US has managed to miss every civilian possible and has only killed Taliban soldiers, but when the media issues unconfirmed reports it does no service to this great country. That goes for Anthrax scares as well. Unless it’s Anthrax, don’t report it. It just generates fear.
Halloween was pitiful this year. We got maybe 10 kids this year. In a usual year we could expect up to 100 kids asking for candy. I believe the disparity exists because of the fear the media is spewing.
I seriously expect a report to come out like:
“Unconfirmed reports indicate…US bombs killed 1,000 Afgani citizens who happened to be in a peaceful meeting with 100 muslim leaders who were organizing an opposition against the Taliban. A bus full of children and kittens was also destroyed.”
Except insofar as informing us what the rest of the world is being told. The Taleban are kicking our collective butts to next friday in the propaganda war for world opinion; and all you can do is whine about how awful it is that you should have to hear an unvalidated story or two ? Get a grip. Take a valium. Someone in this country needs to be strong enough to face the rest of the world without rose-colored glasses
Yes, Squink, you do have a valid point there. I have other problems with the media, but I think we should be informed of what is actually happening before the propaganda starts. Hell, the media is so skewed nowadays that I’m surprised they bother reporting real news anyway.
Something should be noted here though, even with the propaganda we aren’t being informed like the rest of the world is. The whole Israel vs Palesine issue is a prime example of this.
I’m not trying to take sides (especially considering that I don’t know the full story), but I do know that the vast majority of the death and destruction that takes place in that area is completely unreported. Some say that Israel is the agressor and is performing it’s own form of terrorism when it rolls its tanks into the Gaza Strip region. Others say it’s justified by the actions of the palestinians (ie they commit the terrorist actions first…)
Who’s to say? I know I can’t because the media would rather report unconfirmed (most likely bullshit) stories that the Taliban is feeding us. That’s my problem.
