Stop screwing around and fork over the kitten.

We’ve been thinking about getting another cat. On Monday my husband spots a Craigslist ad with free kittens. He’s totally squeeing over the cuteness. (when a man squees, you know it’s serious) I told him if he’s serious, e-mail the poster and set up a visit. He e-mails her. No response.

The next day we still haven’t heard from the poster. The original ad is down, but a new one is posted (the same info, minus pictures). I call the number. I leave a message.
That evening the poster calls and tells my husband that the kittens are all available and ready to go. She lives near my work, so I call her back that evening. She gives me her address. I tell her I can be over around 5:30. She says that’s fine.

The next day the second ad is down, but a new one is up - same info, no pictures. I show up at 5:30. She’s not home. I call her cell phone. No answer. I wait around for 45 minutes - still no answer. My husband checks Craigslist - the ad is still up. He hasn’t heard from her.

Stupid damn waste of my time people - if you’re trying to find a home for your misbegotten litter, at least have the courtesy to respond to your ad and be home when you say you’ll be home!

I went to the Humane Society and got a kitten. For $100 this kitten came already spayed and current on her shots, so I probably saved money in the long run.

And I never did hear from the Craigslist woman. And today the ad is down.

When come back, will have pictures.

Oh, and I’m soliciting name suggestions. She’s a completely black female with a medium length coat. Her eyes are golden. My 3yr old wants to call her Sally, but my husband says that is silly. (I kind of like it) We’ve already got Zoey (dog) and Oliver (cat).

Flake Bitch? Muffin?

Guess which one is for the cat.

I think you should name her Emily.

Custard or Speck are also good names. But really, go with Emily. Oliver and Emily make a great team.

You probably DID save some money. Each of our “free” cats cost us at least a couple of hundred dollars before the spay/neuter, just to get them into the household (we always have them treated for fleas, tested for diseases, and then immunized before we put them in the house).

I love black cats with medium or longer fur. I bet she’s gorgeous. Sally is a fine name for a cat, and a much better name than most 3 year olds would pick.

How about “Franny” to go with Zoey (yes, I know Salinger spelled it Zooey)?

I’m partial to Cleo myself.

I like Sally. Makes me think of Sally from the Nightmare Before Christmas.

Susan

We have a Cleo too! She’s been with us since the month after daHubby and I got married–in fact, she was born the day before we got married.

Our black cat who came to us via a vet who boarded with us, is named Samurai Jack. He’s a shorthair, has the prettiest gold-green eyes and is built like a TANK. I love him to death.

I just want to say that forking kittens is just plain wrong! And no-one should do it, ever!

We have a Cleo also - but she’s a huge white dunderhead that we love to pieces.

I like Sally also. Many three year olds name their new kitties “Kitty”. Heh.

I think it’s a bad idea to disappoint a 3 year old by dismissing what they want to name a kitty – think of the hurt feelings vs the excited pride in you validating their choice. Especially since Sally is a perfectly fine name for a cat! My vote’s for Sally.

I totally sympathize with your difficulties. You’d think with the surplus of unwanted kittens it’d be easy to get one, but I’ve been attempting this for nearly a month and to no avail. Precious Pets and craigslist have both failed me, but hopefully today the shelter I’m visiting will be more helpful.

Oh, and another vote for Sally!

Emily and Zooey go together, too, if your mind remembers trivia like mine does.

Yeah, you should name the cat “Speak”.

Congratulations on what sounds like a lovely kitten. If Sally by itself seems to lightweight to the husband, you could add Empress in front of it. Or name her Salmagundi and let her be Sally for short.

'Zactly.

Agree with Shayna, love Sally.

Make with the pictures!

Or Salome.

Nell. I say name it Nell, after Little Nell, so you can have Oliver and Nell, two Victorian waifs.

Another vote for Sally.

Cats do not care what you name them. I named mine Kitty and she responds to her name and doesn’t seem to care.
