Stopping urban legends and glurge

One of my friends used to repeatedly send me those. I finally had enough and sent an email containing tubgirl (no, dont try and google for it) to not only him but all of the other people on his mailing list as well, spelling out very clearly that this was a result of him sending me crap and hinting that worse could come. He stopped sneding stuff to me after than mainly from the fear that he would lose the rest of his friends.

Not bad - not bad at all…

Actually, it can.

Toronto Star columnist Michele Landsberg wrote a May 10[sup]th[/sup] column titled “E-petition to save Amina could harm, not help”. It was concerning the case of Amina Lawal, who was sentenced to be stoned to death by a Sharia court in Nigeria for unwed sex. Many petitions (including one at Oprah’s site) have surfaced to “save” Amina, but none of them will be effective, say officials at BAOBAB, a legal defense fund set up for women sentenced to death under Sharia law.
According to Landsberg, BAOBAB says that the Sharia courts see Western non-Muslims as “infidels”, resent their meddling and have complete disregard for their opinions. In fact, “contemptuous e-mails from Western dources merely inflame the defiant attitudes of Taliban-type local leaders and spur them to ever harsher and more extreme actions”. Also, these petitions imply that villagers are helpless victims who must be rescued by the white cowboys over in 'Merrica.
BAOBAB argues cases in the Sharia courts from a Muslim perpective, with expertise in Islamic law. In all of the cases that BAOBAB has argued on appeal, none of the original sentences of stoning have been carried out.

Alarmist e-mails like this just inflame racial resentment and oversimplify complex cultural issues. So stop trying to “save” Amina.

I hear there’s a major lawsuit brewing because Sean Hayes completely stole Esprix’s life for the entirety of the WILL & GRACE run. Hell, you do the math.

Whiny Whiny Whiny. Contributes nothing of substance ever, yet is still a bitchy star. Kudos.

I hope you reign supreme forever, you drama queen.

Kang or Kodos or whoever the fuck you are… what was the point of that post ?

If you have a problem with the actual OP, why don’t you post about that ? Or if you have a problem with the OPer, why don’t you start your own thread ? Or do you just liking taking a reasonless squat in your own little postal region of an interesting thread ?

See? How do you get rid of this stuff?

The glurge, ULs and assorted shit have been stopped in my workplace by instituting policies against forwarding and any all nonwork related email to anyone inside or outside of the organization. It was all so simple. First time, verbal warning, second time, written warning, third time, termination of employment. Only one person has gone so far as the second time since then. I know it sounds extreme, but it was felt important to not be clogging people’s work email with nonsense.

When I get any of this stuff in my work email from people outside the organization, I send a nice email requesting that they not send me non-work related email. Know what? It’s worked, so far.
