This thread Reading goodreads reviews convinces me satire or commentary is lost on people - Cafe Society - Straight Dope Message Board reminded me of a story I’ve been looking for, for some time. Back in the mid-80s when I was in college, I read a lot of 1970 and 1980 era anthologies (Orbits, Best of F & SF, etc.). One story I remember was about a teacher at a radically progressive school (I remember that one kid was in trouble for using the word “bad”) and the kid who took over the school. The story was first person told by the teacher, and it turned out that writing her life story one thousand times was the teacher’s punishment. “Orbit 18” has a story called “The Teacher” by Kathleen M. Sidney, which sounds promising, but I haven’t found an excerpt or summary that allows me to confirm this. Anyone remember the story (or have a copy of “Orbit 18”)?
I don’t have a copy, but you can get one from amazon for as little as $.03 plus shipping.
Thanks. May end up doing that - the book does have a bunch of other good stories.
