Straight Dope MLB Team Allegiance

Changed the typo for you as you requested.

Thanks.

Hope that none of you voting for sex have to change your votes, now.

Yeah, I knew they were originally the Los Angeles Angels, but still. I like Anaheim Angels better than California, but I don’t mind California. We also have the Golden State Warriors, which are in Oakland, but moving to San Francisco and thankfully won’t have to change their names.

Cincinnati Reds here. While in New York, I’ve been a Yankees fan, and will probably harbor fond feelings for them after I leave, but the Reds are blood. Gramma used to listen to every single game on the radio.

Boston born and Boston bred Sox

Huge **Cubs **fan here. In fact, I’m streaming the game right now from MLBs hideously expensive and shit quality “Nextdef” subscription. (But that’s a pit thread.)

I’ve only been to Chicago once not counting O’Hare connections. The one time I did was a road trip with a few friends in grad school. I made sure to catch a game at Wrigley. Paid $6 for a bleacher seat and watched the Cubs lose to the Braves 19-7. I got to root for my favorite player of all time (Ryne Sandberg) and yell taunts and Deion Sanders in the outfield.

New York Yankees. As a native of The Bronx, rooting for the Bombers is a natural.

My family was traditionally NY Giants fans. After they left, some of my family gravitated to the new NL team, the Mets. Others like me went for the Bronx team, the Yankees.

I think we got the best of the deal.

Wow. There is another Astros fan here that is willing to admit it?

I picked the D-backs, although since I moved to Chicago I’ve also been following the Cubs. In the AL, I follow the Texas Rangers and the White Sox. However, I have the MLB baseball package online so I’m almost always watching a game or streaming the radio over my phone.

I bleed Dodger Blue. The Padres get the second slot because I need a team that both the wife and I can root for together.

An interesting companion poll might be what teams you hate. :stuck_out_tongue:

I am a Phillies fan from birth. There’s not many things I can agree about with a Mets fan, but this is one of them: You may have an interest in/follow/cheer for more than one team, but you can have “allegiance” to one team.

Interesting — although perhaps not terribly shocking right now — that the only team without a vote happens to be the Marlins.

Sure. George Springer is totally going to dominate the league! Just wait till he gets out of AA!

Brewers. I grew up in Wisconsin, and was in high school for what turned out to be, in retrospect, the team’s “golden age” (1978-1982).

Secondary team is the White Sox, as I’ve been living in Chicago for the past 24 years, and my wife and her family are all Sox fans.

I think that Montreal should offer to take that team off of Miami’s hands…it couldn’t be any worse. Though, they should stipulate that the owner has to stay in Miami.

There’s no loyalty involved. I’d sell 'em out in a minute for cheaper seats and better food.

Cardinal fan here.

I was a season ticket holder for many years, until the wife decided we wanted kids…

Phillies. Born, raised, and still reside in Philly and am a fan of all the sports teams in the city

I wish I could say Chicago White Sox. By birthright, I should be a Sox fan, born on the Southwest Side of Chicago, in White Sox country. But, alas, I’m a long suffering Cubs fan. I blame it on WGN (Cubs games were always on in the day when I was a kid, so I watched a lot of Cubs baseball) and lack of strong parental leadership in the matter (they’re both Polish-born, so don’t care about baseball.)

R-E-D-S!!!

(and still no votes for the poor Marlins)
