You’re right, Kabbes. I should have mentioned the hundred-and-something other groups, but I plead ignorance of whatever high-holy cabal of politicians calls the shots elsewhere.

I’m afraid I’ve never heard of any of these people, Lib. I’m assuming they were in some way responsible for introducing legal abortions into the US.
This doesn’t change my point that abortion is a personal decision made by the person having the abortion (the aborter? that’s probably the correct term but it sounds horrible) whereas the decision to implement the holocaust was a group decision made by politicians in furtherance of their political schemes.
Abortion is, in practice, a matter of conscience whereas the holocaust was a matter of politics.
The personal vs the group.
The Mermaid: Stop. Just stop it. Please.
JoJo Supreme Court justices.
ok so if they were Supreme Court judges they will have interpreted the law in such a way as to allow for legal abortions. They didn’t actually think up the the idea of abortions - they just happened to be the ones who decided that the law allowed for them.
Abortions were happening anyway, just illegally and dangerously. In the UK, before we legalised abortion, we used to have cases of people sticking knitting needles up their vagina in order to abort.
The difference is that our pal Adolf and his cronies did think up the idea of the holocaust.
This is the REMEDIATION thread.
Now say the fuck you’re sorry and go fight somewhere else.
I don’t wanna see anything out of you shitbirds except some fucking generosity Goddamn goodwill!
Awwright?
Sorry Scylla.
I’ll go away now.
(but the straight dope would be pretty boring if it just consisted of people agreeing with each other all the time :))
I’m sorry.
[sub]Yeah, OK, I’m afraid of Scylla. He might just kick my ass … and if he doesn’t, his wife surely will.[/sub]
the fuck I’m sorry.
(aw come on you were expecting that)
Scylla I am sorry for allowing my personal trainwreck of a thread to infect this thread as well. I felt I had a legitimate comment to make; I feel I still do.
I am sorry that I allowed my comments to be sidetracked by the arguments and side points.
I am sorry that I used the words all or always- even though when that fact was pointed out to me, I clarified my statements to allow for a case by case basis when it came to the final disposition of the abused animal.
It was when the responses became personal and inflammatory that I really screwed up. Instead of dealing with each on a line by line basis, I should have ignored them all together as one should when dealing with a person who is trolling. But I continued to take the bait.
I should have had cites ready to explain how I had arrived at my point of view.
So when I asked for a thread closing, a first for me, it was in the interest of keeping the peace since my repeated pleas to just let it rest had been met only with derision. I am sorry that this was interpreted as a sign of weakness or an admission of guilt or some such drivel. I have never seen anyone follow someone to another thread to gloat, especially when they have to gloat about.
I felt like my choices were either fight for your beliefs or be labeled a coward, liar and hysterical bitch. You might say I felt like I was caught between Scylla and Charybdis.
I agree entirely with TheRyan’s last post.
I’m sorry.
(happy now, scylla)
Does it strike anyone else as wryly amusing that the remediation thread got about as bitter and argumentative as anything else we’ve seen?
You can take the dopers to peace talks but you can’t make them agree.
pan
I want to say that Ryan’s post on page one rocks.
Scylla, you realize that if this thread works we’re going to send you over to the Mideast? If you can get Dopers to live in peace and harmony, the Israelis and Palestinians would be a piece of pie.
Thank you. You come very close to achieving the paragon of rationality that I embody.
Hell yeah!
I actually thought highly of The Ryan’s post as well. It was witty, concise, amusing and thought-provoking.
In fact, I enjoyed it more than watching K-PAX
Now there’s no excuse for being obtuse.
(hey look I made a rhyme)
I don’t think that’s been established.
