"Straight Dope" themes

Straight Dope Light has 4" of blank space on the left, and 4" on the right once you get past the date line. Also 2" between the text boxes and the date line; for a total of 10" blank horizontal space on a window currently 19" wide. (I could make it a little wider, but that would only make the problem worse.)

So less than half the available horizontal space is in use – again, in the theme that was supposed to fix the problem.

I can live with that, if I have to. It would be nice if I didn’t have to.

Oh, I agree that there’s far too much wasted space, especially on the right. Let’s see…

1.25" edge to avatar
1.5" to text.
6.825" of text
2" text to slider
.75" of slider
2" slider to right edge
13.5" screen width

Measurements not precise due to shaking hands trying to hold measuring tape.

Except for the page header, I can not see any difference between Dark and Straight Dope Dark. Honestly, the blue/red/yellow in SD Dark is annoying, so I went back to plain Dark.

The Straight Dope icon at the top has been fixed in the Straight Dope themes - it has the “fighting ignorance since 1973” line in a separate red line which is a huge improvement.

I’m curious to know what the default is for people viewing the boards when not logged in. It would be nice if new visitors could see the board at its best i.e. with the header displaying properly.

I am enjoying Simple Sam(or Sam’s Simple). It’s close enough to being back to the Dope I know.

However, if an amazing doper wants to create a theme that will restore the Dope to how it looked(or gets as close as possible), that would be amazing!

I logged out to check this and the default for visitors is Straight Dope Light which is arguably the most aesthetically pleasing choice.

(I’m also using this reply to test out whether I can quote myself)
