ETA: Never mind; I see LSLGuy has already described this. Just ignore me.
I think the closest thing available to what you want is, when you click on User CP (near the top left of the page), you can see all the threads you’re subscribed to (at least the ones that have new activity).
You can set it to automatically subscribe to any thread you post in. (On that User CP page, click Edit Options, then go down to Default Thread Subscription Mode under Messaging & Notification, where you’ll find a pull-down menu.)
Personally, I find color too distracting from people’s words! I prefer to read the Dope on a monochrome CRT monitor. That is, since I ran out of perforated paper for my dot matrix printer.
Last word I’ll say on this. If the powers that be tech support isn’t willing to keep up with security patches they should consider changing to a fully managed vbulletin solution. There is a bunch of companies doing this, for a fee they manage and update all patches as needed. The prices are not exorbitant, looking at at the dopes monthly uniques with trafficestimate.com makes me think they could definitely afford it.
Otherwise, its not if but when will the dope be hacked again.
Avatars will lead to embedded images, then animated gifs in signatures, and then video! Dopers will discover Rickrolling and all hell will break loose. Ultimately, every thread on the Dope will be littered with images of goatse and tubgirl.
As I previously said, embedded images and videos would be an improvement if they were displayed as simple icons that the reader could choose to open inline or choose to ignore, as they have already seen that shit enough.
