Military strategist who came up with the concept of “shock and awe” is outed by high power madam.

A woman charged with running a prostitution ring in Washington DC made good on her threat to identify high-profile clients, listing in court documents a military strategist known for his “shock and awe” combat theories as a regular customer.

Deborah Jeane Palfrey, who is acting as her own lawyer, said Harlan Ullman, a senior associate with the Centre for Strategic and International Studies, “is only one of dozens of such officials” who will be exposed as she prepares her defence.

Ullman declined to talk about the claim in a brief telephone interview with The Associated Press last night, saying “the allegations are beneath the dignity of a comment.”

He was the primary author of a 1996 report that coined the phrase “shock and awe,” which calls for a massive attack of precision air power that psychologically destroys an enemy’s will to fight as much as it destroys the physical ability to do so.

I’m sure many will disagree with this, but this is one of those cases where I feel the press has an obligation to withhold names. Not that they ever would, of course, but this madam has every reason to name all sorts of high-ranking DC officials to stir up a bunch of shit. Their names then get dragged through the mud even if her allegations are false.

Well her intent in calling such witnesses is so they can testify that prostitution didn’t occur. It’s not illegal to pay a woman to attend a dinner with you. But yes, I agree with **Beadalin **that the newspaper releasing his name is lacking in taste and class.
