Strange mental habit.

I have got into the habit of re-arranging the words in the thread titles in my head as I read them. Can’t think why. I will scroll (mentally) down a page and change each title as I go…

**I’m thinking of using my changername…

How Gang Have There Been Longs?

Man baths shun for 18 years

Strangely sensual pleasurations

So I’m going to Taco, Wexas. Any advice? **

Should I visit the white coat people? Or is it just a case of boredom gone too far?

What are your strange mental habits?
[sub](p.s. the examples above are just ones I came up with for this thread. Often the actual re-arranges are more creative/more selective)[/sub]

Hobbits string mentats

Last year, a small MIT poster went up in the library at my high school. Fairly simple: a red background, with “MIT” in large white lettering.

Well, every time I walked by the library, I read it as TIM. Why, I wondered, would they put up a poster that said “TIM”? This thoroughly puzzled me for a few days, until, after staring at it for a while, I suddenly realized that it read MIT, not TIM.

I wasn’t on any drugs, either. Weird.

Your disorder sounds like boredom, dyslexia, drugs, or a combination of the three.

The guy whose office is right across from mine at work has a sign on his door reading, “Talk is cheap. Free speech isn’t.”

Ever since the first time I saw that sign about two years ago, I can’t help mentally juggling with it. After many various permutations, I am now hooked on running each word in “Talk is cheap” through a thesaurus and imagining that the first sentence reads “Conference we frugal.” I think that every single time I glance at that sign, which is easily 30 or 40 times a week.

(“Is” becomes “we” because “is” could conceivably be a pluralization of “I.” “I” + “s” = “Is.”)

I always tend to misread things in the most humorous way possible.

Recently Amazon has been trying to sell me the Swimming Pool (dvd) Urinated Version.

I keep geting spam about Low Crab Diets, or ways to Bum extra calories.

You are an intelligent, bored, pattern-maker. You like to play word games and are good at them (crosswords, Scrabble). You are creative and often annoyed your teachers with your innovative use of the English language. You may well be recalcitrant. You like to open things up to see how they work even though you can’t always put them back together the way they were. Your favourite colour is blue. If you have flown on an airplane the tail was red. You are interested in the way other people think. You are a Seeker. You are right-handed.

Sorry, got carried away.

Mine doesn’t have to do with words or rearranging… but I often find that I’m viewing my surroundings as though through the eyes of friends or family who are far away… sort of seeing it for them. I look all around at everything (so they get a good idea of where i am) and then I look at my right hand, which has a green ring on it (which i always wear) so they know that it’s me they’re ‘experiencing.’ Kinda weird… but fun to think about on long walks.

Is this a common thing to do? Something tells me i’m not the only one who does this…

Bold=true.

Red,Bold-very true.

Italic=Not sure what you mean.

I do something similar (If I read you right). I suddenly imagine that somehow someone has tapped into my brain and is seeing what I see.
Occasionally I pretend I am a) an alien visiting earth for the first time and marvelling at the differences b) a dead person seeing the modern world (such as - I imagine I am JRR Tolkien watching the LotR films, or I am George Lucas of 25 years ago transported to now and shown Star wars I and II. Things like that)

Lately I’ve been doing that as if I am George Owell in the nineteen eighty four context. I look at the Big colour TV, then turn it off and on to let him know I can control it.

Ha… that’s the crazy part, actually playing with the remote… or just purposely putting in some extra effort, just to make sure the person looking through you is able to understand everything.
That’s like me making sure to glance at my ring, solely for ‘their’ sake.

Funny, too, that I also do the time-traveler thing and the alien thing.

I just noticed - you are new. Welcome. the name ‘rose’ seems familiar somehow. I thought you’d been here a while.

Thanks… been reading the SDMB for a while, finally signed myself up. This one seemed like a typical, fun litte MPSIMS… doesn’t seem to be getting too many posts yet, though! I thought this sort of ‘strange mental habits’ was the hallmark of a doper! :wink:
