Strange New Worlds season 2 to start June 15, 2023

I know a show is great when the stupid parts can be easily ignored! Who cares? It was fun!

Seriously.

I think even the “previously on” parts were done well, as they misdirected our expectations for where it was going to go.

Boy! That was a really expensive Real Cookie Day for the Federation.

A nice bit of Continuity: in the TOS episode Menagerie Kirk said he first met Pike when he was promoted to Fleet Captain which he was (temporarily) in this episode.

I liked this even if the mystery was very obvious very quickly but I forgive Trek for going to the same well over and over. When you produce hundreds of episodes, stories will be reused.

Certain aliens are going to be in a lot of pain when certain protostars ignite.

FYI because of Comic con the SNW Lower Decks cross over is available to watch now. I liked it!

That physical installation had a substantial dollar value attached to it. This is a multimillion dollar operation. She can’t make that kind of decision. She’s just a grunt! No offense.

What are these “dollars” of which you speak?

Thanks for pointing this out. Episode did not disappoint.

That was an excellent episode.
Really well done cross-over.

I loved that Boimler was still Boimler.

Don’t skip the opening, special fun to watch for this episode.

Did anyone know who Pelia was referencing with the become the hero story?

Cary Grant.

Nice, I thought it sounded vaguely familiar but I couldn’t place it.

Thank you.

I recognized it immediately by googling for it.

As a fan of both shows this latest episode was a real treat.

Also the references to Enterprise toward the end.

Jonathan Frakes directed this episode, he seems to do a pretty good job.

“Riker!”

That came as no surprise to me - Frakes has become one of the better Trek directors. Except for perhaps Wrath of Khan, he directed the best of the films.

Definitely a fun episode, but I was disappointed we did not get to see live-action Tendi. She’s my favorite on Lower Decks.

Nimoy, the Voyage Home. Star Trek IV. The Whale Movie.

Also Frakes directed a good one and a terrible one.
Star Trek: First Contact (1996) Good, very good.
Star Trek: Insurrection (1998)
Bad, very bad.

I thought about why they might have done that, and I think it’s because Tendi (and Rutherford) are very different from their voice actors. Tendi’s actor is Noel Wells, who is 5’5”. Tawny Newsome is about 5’10”, and Jack Quaid is 6’ even. It might have been jarring to see them standing side by side.

I mostly remember Wells from Master of None, where she played Aziz Ansari’s girlfriend early in the series.

Eugene Cordero, who voices Rutherford, is 5’7”.

Fans of The Good Place might remember him as Jason’s best friend, “Pill Boy”.

Again, I think it might have been a bit jarring. Just a WAG from me.

Loved the episode. It’s a measure of how good the show is that in midst of this rampant silliness, they can do a scene like the one with Boimler and Chapel in the turbolift that’s legit dramatic and moving.

Oh, and the ending, at Capt. Pike’s party? “What’s in these things?!”

I saw and enjoyed the crossover episode today (despite being cool on the Lower Decks show). It was fun to watch the Lower Decks crew fanboying over the Enterprise crew (and the ship itself).
