Other than turning into a complete klutz and idiot (I frequently have to return to different rooms several times while getting ready to go somewhere since I can’t remember what I was doing there in the first place), I have the oddest physical symptom.
Okay, don’t laugh. ONE underarm, my right one, sweats a LOT, and smells "odd’ not BO bad, just strange and yeah, somewhat unpleasant, acid-y, sharpish, sorry I can’t describe it very well. (I know, I know, I’m a freak of nature) :D. Thankfully it is only PMS, so it’s only a day, or a day and a half, but still…Blech!
Any other girls have something just weird like this? What do you do? (and no, my normal deoderant doesn’t help, and neither does switching brands).
Maybe it always smells that way and your sense of smell just changes for that day and a half?
I really have no idea but if it’s definitely connected to your cycle, I wouldn’t worry too much. FWIW, my earwax production goes into overdrive around then, so I can match you weird for weird.
Yeah, I get that stinky sweat thing. It sucks, and I haven’t found much I can do about it, other than change clothes more often when PMSing, and re-applying deodorant when possible.
Yes!!! It happens to me too - especially in my right 'pit. But my PMS usually lasts a few days.
Sue - you nailed my big fear - I also notice that my sense of smell is much stronger - which makes me wonder … do I USUALLY smell that way and I just don’t usually know it???
(I also have the klutzy symptoms, as well as the memory issues …).
That’s funny. I don’t notice one of my armpits smelling worse but I notice my whole self smelling really bad by the end of the day. But I also notice other people smelling terrible all day long during PMS. It just took me forever to figure out that it was PMS. I went for years saying, “why does everyone stink lately!?” once every 4 weeks without seeing the pattern.
During PMS and, um, MS my sense of smell gets very sensitive so things I don’t usually notice strike me strongly-- like men’s BO, my own, food smells, etc. I can smell myself very well and it makes me very paranoid.
I like that…I call it DMS. Why only have a syndrome for the pre- part when there’s plenty of drama and opportunity for pharmaceuticals for the during part?
I haven’t really noticed excessive pit sweat during PMS, but I get so many other fun things happening to my bod at that time. Just the usual though, huge gazongas, lots of water, crying, need tons of sleep and so on. It’s great being a gal!
I haven’t noticed any changes in my body scent or sense of smell. But the klutziness? I can’t keep anything in my hands. I drop everything, I stumble, trip, and yes, literally walk into walls and doors. I bruise myself monthly.
I don’t care for potato chips most of the time (I don’t care for pretty much anything too salty or greasy) but for two days a month I just can’t get enough chips. The Salt and Vinegar ones, the Salt and Pepper ones, and the Ketchup ones.
mmmmm… Potato Chips. Damn, it’s 12:30 the Cumberland Farms is closed
Oh yeah, I get the klutz and memory thing, too.
My sister is weird. She gets cold symptoms for two or three days.
I get headaches during the actual cycle that make my paranoia really go into hyperdrive about TSS. I start to feel that maybe I am experiancing a mild, almost borderline possibility of toxic shock. I also am very thirsty and my hair is oilier during pms.
I went to a concert last month while I had PMS…it was hell.
Old leather jackets, beer, cigarettes, BO, marijauna, deoderants, perfumes and colognes …I felt overwhelmed by it all, and ended up standing at the side, with my back against the wall, just to get some relief.
I don’t notice myself smelling more, but I tend to shower twice a day for that week, because my hair gets geasy and the hot water helps the aches in my boobs, back and tummy.
Are the technicolour nightmares common? I know one or two other people who get them. I could always tell my period was coming when I’d have nightmares 3 nights in a row.
The gene for sweat glands is on the X chromosome. If a Man has a defective copy of this gene then he will have no sweat glands. If a woman has two copies of this gene, one on each X chromosome, then she will have no sweat glands. However, woman undergo a process called X inactivation where one X chromosome is inactivated in each cell randomly. This happens really early in development and all of that particular cell’s decendents will have that X inactivated. This will lead to a mosaic effect where patches of skin will have no sweat glands.
