No, it’s not. ![]()
So, tell me: Are you wearing a pork pie hat when you’re here? ![]()
My town in West Texas was segregated, and you only ever heard “soda” on the Black side. No one ever said “pop.” Everyone used “Coke,” regardless of whether it was actually Coke they were getting. Could be Pepsi, 7-Up etc, but all the rednecks invariably said: “Let’s go get a Coke.”
Heh. Completely off-track as well, but it reminded me of something we did a couple of years ago. My brother was having dinner with some friends over Christmas; they were exchanging penny gifts. We doubted over some of the wrapping paper we had: would it be appropriate, or were those Chinese-looking characters the equivalent of misspelled South Park dialogue? One of the guests is from China… Finally Bro said “well, it looks pretty, and it may make a good conversation piece. Let’s use it.”
Turns out the characters were a famous love poem, the Chinese friend loved it. We still had an uncut piece, which Bro gave to her later ![]()
Do not worry, you would not catch me dead in one.
Ah. Carry on then.
So how do you feel about people that call it “sodee-pop”? ![]()
Here’s one: people who pronounce tortoise as “tor-TOYCE” instead of “TOR-tuss”.
Irrational, I know. I think there’s something wrong with people who have Dish Network instead of DirecTV. I don’t harbor similar prejudices against cable subscribers, although cable’s not for me.
Just thought of a few more:
I have an irrational prejudice against people who won’t buy a company’s products because some of the other people who buy those products are “smug” (e.g., Apple), “pretentious” (e.g., BMW), or whatever. Either it’s a good product that fits your needs or it’s not. Who cares what other people use it?
Ditto for bands. If you liked their music before they got popular, why stop listening to it now?
And I have an irrational prejudice against “old money.” How can you feel so damned superior about having a pile of money you didn’t earn?
OMG, me too! DirecTV is so much better and offers so much more. I wish I still had it, but alas, my new house has no view of the southern sky. But hey, we have a spectacular wooded lot.
I have an irrational prejudice against people who won’t cut down a large swath of trees for better television reception.

That’s not irrational.
Yea, I had a girlfriend who had delusions of grandeur, she insisted on calling it soda because of her “Chicago Family and connections”. Even though “Pop” was and persists to be local nomenclature, she had to be different and actually tried to interrupt my pattern and impose the snoot on me.
That was one of the reasons it didn’t work for us, she always had a slight air of disdain for my “low class ways” she just never really respected me and thought I was below her potential. Sucks, but what can you do? I really do think we loved each other for a while, though.
Heh, I’m the opposite. I get annoyed by people who go out of their way not to use IE.
I only have IE on my computer and when my cousin asked to use my computer to check some online stuff, he actually downloaded Firefox on it first and then did his five-minute surfing.
I’ve tried all the well known browsers but I really like IE best, it’s the only one I have zero complaints about.

I care because other people who see me using the product will then categorise me with the group I have a negative perception of, basically.
My strange prejudice is people that hate dogs.
I generally like to get to know someone before I decide whether I like a person or not. But if I hear right off the bat, they dislike dogs. I can’t help but feel there’s something wrong with them and I’m probably not going to like this person.
If a person had a bad experience with a dog, that’s understandble. But other than that and perhaps cultural reasons how can a person detest dogs ?
I like dogs better than most people I know.

Yep, 100% agree with these.
Sounds like you really meant to say that you don’t like people who in fact feel superior because they inherited money. Because it’s possible to inherit money and not feel superior to others because of it.
Quite true. Generally, though, those people don’t refer to themselves as “old money.” That phrase is reserved for the snobs.
