Your overly judgmental opinions

We’ve had threads like this before, but it’s been a while, and they’re usually interesting, so here goes.

Share your opinions and attitudes that you know are overly harsh, way too judgmental or just plain cruel, and yet you can’t stop thinking it or feeling it. I’ll go first:

**People in bad relationships are cowardly and annoying. **

People who give their kids sippy cups are bad parents.

I know, that’s everybody. (Sorry, everybody.) I in fact gave my own kids sippy cups. But it really irks me to see toddlers walking around carrying their cups everywhere. Children should only eat and drink sitting properly at the table with their napkins in their laps, speaking only when spoken to (but not with their mouths full!) and finishing everything on their plates without making a mess.

OK, that’s unrealistic, but I do believe in eating at the table and not all over the house. And the way to learn to use a real cup is to practice using a cup! At the table. Harrumph.

People who get tattoos in a language they don’t even speak are posers and should stop appropriating other people’s cultures.

I even have some friends who have Chinese tattoos or Sanskrit tattoos. And I like my friends! But I would never even get a Sanskrit tattoo, and I’m Indian - but am not exactly fluent in Sanskrit. I do have a tattoo of an Om, but like I said, I’m Hindu!

People who homeschool their children are fundy wingnuts.

One of my work colleagues homeschools her kids, and she’s actually pretty normal – not overly religious, not out of touch with contemporary culture, not condemnatory of public schools, etc.

I don’t know why she is homeschooling or what makes her think she is qualified to homeschool, but that’s a whole 'nother issue.

People who would keep a bird in a cage, for their own amusement, denying a creature it’s gift of flight, will surely come back as lab animals!

I never speak up, when I see a bird in a cage. But I’m always thinking it!

People who don’t take care of their shoes disgust me.

**Children who have bad manners have terrible parents. **

I don’t have kids so I admit I have no clue. But seriously, how fucking difficult is it to teach the little person you created and/or have been tasked with raising the simple rules for existing in society?

I can’t stand little kids mainly for this reason - it seems like the majority of small children aren’t taught any basic damn manners.

Bullies – both verbal and physical - of any age should be punished much more harshly and their lives should be affected by their acts. I don’t subscribe to “kids are being kids” cave-man BS.

Not every child is the same and there are some that are pretty cruel.

I don’t really care about how kid developed cruelty – that’s a separate issue – but some kid’s cruelty when it translates into another kid being hurt should be punished MUCH harshly that it is these days, zero tolerance and the 1st adult that mentions all the Darwinian BS should be bitch-slapped across the filthy mouth.

People who brag about being too civilized for outdoor pursuits are fearful and prissy.

What does this mean, “take care of their shoes?” I let them dry out overnight by the heater. What else should I be doing?

I’ve learned to accept facial piercings without being too judgmental, as several of my kids’ friends (that I like) have these hideous things. I remain, and will always remain, overly judgmental on ear gauging. I have dozens of other things I’m overly judgmental about, but this is a good start.

People who have swastikas inked or carved on their bodies are people to be wary of.

People under 30 who have fewer teeth than fingers and they have fewer than 10 fingers are people to be wary of.

Experience speaking here, people! Bad experience!!

[sub]Still, it’s only anecdotal[/sub]

Oh yeah ear gauging. I don’t mind the facial piercings, though some gross me out and some don’t, but the ear thing never fails to make me squeamish.

I bet. I was amused, though, when I was watching an episode of Top Gear UK yesterday when they went to India, and they showed cars pulling up with the swastika blazened on them…I mean, it’s still a significant religious symbol over there. No one made any note of it. I kind of wished the presenters had said something, but it’s not their purview. But yes, anyone who has one inked on their bodies deserves a hairy eyeball.

I think most people who say they have to eat gluten-free are just going along with a current fad and don’t have any physical problems resulting from gluten consumption at all. I do say “most” – I believe that celiac disease is a real thing. I just think that there are a lot of bandwagon-jumpers who like being trendy and are experiencing only psychosomatic improvements (if any) as a result of their dietary changes.

You’re good! You’ve just got to wipe them off every now and again, and don’t drag your feet so they scuff. See - there’s not much to it.

What sort of ear gauge? A pressure gauge does have some utility, in folks with chronic eustachian tube obstruction and middle ear effusion. A fluid level gauge could be useful for that too. But an amperage or bit-rate gauge would be pretty stupid.

Only children are mostly spoiled and self centered. Parents of only children are almost always overly involved and haughty.

i’m an only child…

People who post a picture of themselves onto Facebook are vain, narcissistic and fishing for compliments.
