Strange prejudices you have

I’m not fighting with anyone. It’s not my fault I did something many others couldn’t do. Just as it’s not my fault if others want to attend a real school and are too lazy to look for scholarships and other things. They have scholarships for lefthanded people. So, if you find your ninche, you could go to school for free.

I don’t consider community college real school. I’m entitled to my opinion. If community colleges were on par with real schools why do many of them NOT reuqire ACT or SAT scores?

I am prejudiced against posters named “Trubie”.

There are so many things wrong with this.

I found my ninche and now I am going to go bust some heads with it.

Apologies for derailing the thread, but if a community college isn’t a “real” school, what is it? A fake school?

Again, words means something. A school is an institution of learning. A community college is an institution of learning. Therefore, it is a school. “School” is a value-neutral term. Just like “music” and “art”.

I know a person who attended a community college. He also graduated from two Ivy Leagues.

He also happens to be the president of the United States.

But I guess he’s not smart like you are.

You know the President?

AIR QUOTES! Hate 'em! As soon as someone uses them I start snickering inside. I see the arms go up, the index and middle fingers bending, and I silently scream “NoOOOooOOO! Don’t cheapen yourself this way! Stop! Stop!”

Ninché. Doesn’t that sound like a quaint little village in Mexico or some place?

Conversely, people who only listen to one genre of music and just completely dismiss any style of music that isn’t ‘theirs’ tend to annoy me. They’re often very narrow-minded about everything else, too.

I think vegetarians in the US are bandwagon jumping jerks and/or crazy animal people.

Oh wait, are we not sharing the ones that are true?

Hmm, ok how about:

People who say they “hate math” are actually too lazy and/or stupid to be decent at math.

Dang, another true one…

Wow I suck at this. :frowning:

I shook his hand twice when he came to Richmond.

Yes, you read correctly. TWICE.

I had to beat Michelle off with a stick. She didn’t want me “knowing” her man so much.

I don’t take it quite that far, but I admit that I do think less of people, especially women, who have tattoos.

I guess I’ll counter yours by admitting that I believe people who own pets are not quite as concerned with cleanliness as they should be. I avoid households with pets and, yes irrationally, believe they’re odor laden.

Yeah, Christians kind of give me the creeps when they look at me with a straight face and begin speaking about their god as though it’s real.

Wow. It bothers me that you’d judge someone for this. I’ve never had an alcoholic beverage in my life.

I will never understand why this bothers people. I don’t use a Blue tooth receiver because I can’t stand anything in my ears, but I simply can’t understand why someone would become upset by someone else minding their own business rapt in conversation. Now that, to me, is irrational.

You mean the people who are grounded in reality? The ones who don’t believe in and talk to imaginary beings? Those retarded people?

I don’t necessarily think less of people who employ this pronunciation, but I do find it jarring.

I used to think exactly like you, until I went to a client conference where everyone was fed the same thing, and I didn’t have the option of refusing the dish. I figured I’d suffer through it and try not to gag and embarrass myself. I took one bite of the fillet and, I have to tell you, it was like I’d never had steak before that moment. I absolutely could not believe how good it was. I was like Squidward after having his first Crabby Patty: “~~All the wasted years. Waaahhh.” Heheh. I’m proud to say that I’m a convert and will never eat a well-done steak again, if I can help it.

My prejudices:

  • Black Republicans / Gay Republicans - Why anyone would voluntarily be a member of an organization that actively and constantly campaigns against their interests, besides self-hatred that is, is beyond me.

  • Smokers who have no intention of quitting - I mean, come on, already. You either don’t know it’s killing you, or you know and don’t care. Either way, you make me nervous.

My irrational prejudice:

  • People who only speak one language - As I said, irrational. I know most Americans only speak one language, but I do tend to place monolinguals in the lazy category.

When I want to add emphasis, I use jazz hands. They’re like air quotes, but festive.

I have degrees from the Universities of California and Michigan and have never been a full-time community college student, but I’ve taken seven classes at three different community colleges in three states. (Two of those classes were transferred to my regular universities for credit toward my degrees, the others were just for fun.) In general, I found the level of my courses and my classmates to be quite high.

If you want to say it’s irrational, go crazy, but that you’re defending your irrational prejudice is ridiculous.

People with horses, why is it whenever someone starts to make good money the first thing they buy is a horse. It’s 2011 we have cars and highways. and worse yet are those that don’t have room for them so board them at some stable on the other side of town, whats the point behind that?

Guess you’re talking about me since I did that above. Remember, though, that the topic of this thread is “strange prejudices you have.” Not “rational prejudices,” or “just prejudices” (if there is such a thing), or “fair prejudices”–it’s strange prejudices. So I was admitting that my prejudice against hip-hop isn’t cool, or fair–it’s strange.

And yes, I’m an old fogey (53), but saying that because I don’t like hip-hop then I’m afraid of black people–well, that’s kind of irrational.

Most little girls want horses. Most little girls don’t get them. So they get them when they grow up and get lots of money.

My prejudice against the air quotes is also a bit strange and irrational so I think we’ve both stuck to the spirit of the thread.

That’s fine. I’m not going to be a whiny cry baby over an opinion. Everyone is entitled to have their own opinions.

People are getting too PC. You know the quality of community college and real schools aren’t the same. If a place wants to call itself a college and not take SAT/ACT scores, it’s not a real school. There are places called dogs schools. Are they not “real” schools? :stuck_out_tongue:

However, if you feel this defensive over it, maybe you have your own insecurties.
